Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) returns July 23 to Atlantic City, New Jersey as it presents CFFC 10 - Black Eye at the Resorts Hotel and Casino. The exciting 10-bout card is loaded with the top fighters on the East Coast as well as nationally! CFFC has been on a rampage since its re-launch and MMA fans in the Tri-State area and around the globe won't want to miss this high-octane event! Watch some of the best gladiators in the world fight inside the cage as CFFC 10 – Black Eye is only one day away! If you can’t be in the arena you can still watch it live online through the GFL Combat Sports Network at GFL.tv.
In the main event, newly crowned 170 lb CFFC Champion and undefeated Joey "Boom Boom" Rivera (5-0) battles Chip "The Surgeon" Pollard (4-2) in the first title defense of his CFFC belt. Rivera has won two titles this year from two different promotions (the other based in Arizona) and looks to successfully defend his CFFC title against Pollard who is a late replacement for injured Tom Gallicchio who had to bow out of the championship bout because of injury. The Tucson, Arizona breed Rivera has never gone to a judge’s decision as all 5 of his fights have ended in either submission or TKO. He will look to throw “punches in bunches” and push and aggressive pace on the mat that will open up submission attempts as he looks to continue his winning streak and take back his CFFC title to the Old Pueblo.
As for the Massachusetts fighter, Chip Pollard, coming in as a late replacement could be a blessing in disguise as he might be able to upset the rhythm and game planning Rivera has been training for when Gallicchio was the opponent. Pollard comes into the bout as a slight underdog with nothing to lose and everything to gain. He’s playing with house money, the only question is will he hit the jackpot? Will Pollard be able to dethrone the champion and take the CFFC title back home with him to New England? Tune in on July 23 to watch this exciting event, LIVE at GFL.tv.
In the co-main event, fan favorite and people’s champ Al Buck (5-9) returns to the CFFC cage to fight East Coast fixture Mike Medrano (8-8) in a welterweight contest. But for the combatants, this bout is much more important than just the co-main event. This will be a career-defining fight for both men and for one competitor it might well have career-ending implications attached to it.
The 40-year old Buck is coming off back to back losses so the match with Medrano is do or die for Buck’s career and depending on his showing will tell the tale on his future in the sport. For Buck, a MMA fighter who has always given 100% inside of the cage and overcome obstacles his whole career this is another mountain he must climb.
Medrano faces the same realities as his opponent as he is also on a bit of a losing streak and desperately needs to break the cycle, so this bout could very well be a “loser leaves town” match. Nothing will spark a fire under a competitive athlete faster than fighting for his career and that is exactly what Buck and Medrano are up against at CFFC 10 – Black Eye, two veteran gladiators stepping into the cage for what could be one last hurrah.
The winner will continue to fight while the loser might have to hang up his gloves…permanently. With everything at stake this fight should be a barnburner and will be a candidate for fight of the night as Al Buck and Mike Medrano will leave everything they have inside of the cage for the fans and more importantly for themselves.
The undercard is highlighted by several fights with intriguing storylines. In a bit of a revenge match, Anthony D’Agostino (1-1) fights Patrick White (1-3). Earlier this year at CFFC 7, D’Agostino beat Bill Bontcue, a training partner of White, via TKO after the second round when Bontcue was unable to answer the bell. At CFFC 10, White will look to even the score against D’Agostino. It could also prove an advantage for White as he has been training with somebody who already fought his opponent. For D’Agostino it is another opportunity to pick up a win against a fighter with many of the same tendencies as his last challenger. This fight will be about who can make the small adjustments in their game plan and implement those new changes inside of the cage.
In another interesting undercard match, Artur “The Albanian Nightmare” Rofi (2-0) battles Casey Milliken (2-2) in a contest of two evenly matched rising prospects. Rofi is a Renzo Gracie prospect who is known for having a short fuse. In his last fight at CFFC 9, Rofi head-butted his opponent at the weigh-ins and gained the mental edge right there. Rofi went on to win the fight via arm bar in the second round. Will Rofi try and use the same mind games against Milliken?
Milliken a product of the Throwdown Training Center in the fight capitol of the world, Las Vegas, is a top-level grappler/wrestler and will be able to match Rofi submission for submission on the ground. A veteran with double the fights of his opponent, it is very unlikely Milliken will be fazed by any of Rofi’s pre-fight shenanigans. Both men’s grappling might cancel each other out and this bout could come down to who has the stronger striking ability and be an exciting standup fight for the fans.
