September 29 Review of IZW on GFL.tv

Poster coming soon!

The September 29 edition of IZW TV on GFL.tv showed just how far Impact Elite is willing to go to crush the title reign of Double D and exert its power.  Last week Double D found himself in a Handicap Match against the IZW Tag Team Champions, Big Business and then finished off by “The Bronze Bull” Aaron Neil.  This week, in the main event, Double D found himself again in a 2 on 1 match facing Kyra Maya and The Convict in a Handicap Impact Rules Match.  And that was only the beginning.

Double D was effective in picking his spots and utilizing his speed and agility, but the power and strength of Maya and The Convict and the added caveat of the match also being under Impact Rules, were too much for any one man to overcome.  It looked like Double D might pull off the win after landing a perfect knee to The Convict’s face and following it up with another kick to his foe as a steel chair crunched into The Convict’s head at the same time dropping the big man like a ton of bricks.  With The Convict incapacitated, Double D saw his chance and landed a flying crossbody on Maya followed up by a pin, but it was not to be, as The Convict recovered and stomped on D to break up the pinfall attempt.   With Maya still on the mat, The Convict rushed Double D, but the Champ side-stepped the attack as The Convict ran into the turnbuckle.  From there, D landed a series of his patented knees to the face of The Convict, slowing down the giant again.  The Convict was ready to fall, but Maya cracked D in the back of the head with the championship belt and The Convict gave him his finisher, The 15 to 20, as Maya swarmed in for the pin.  It was then that Erica herself, now ringside, stopped the pinfall herself!  Had Erica finally seen the light?  Had she seen the error of her ways?  NO.  She wanted Double D to suffer even more and suffer he did as The Convict gave him another 15 to 20 through a table.  Double D remained lifeless as The Convict got the pinfall.

From there, Neil came down to dish out more punishment to Double D putting him in a Boston Crab submission looking to end Double D’s career.  But luckily for the Champion and the IZW faithful, Jermaine Johnson rushed to the ring to break up the hold.  From there, Johnson gave Neil a whopping as he connected with punches and kicks and had the “Bronze Bull” on the ropes.  But as Impact Elite is famous for, they don’t fight fair, and Big Business, Jordan Jacobs and Bobby Starr rushed the scene, attacking Johnson all at once, including a Detonator by Big Business.  Impact Elite once again solidified its status in IZW as the alpha group to end all alpha groups.  What’s worse is the final scene on the show could very well resemble what Halloween Hangover is going to resemble on November 3 when everything will come to a head.

Earlier in the night, Big Business (Damon Windsor & Kevin Morgan) defended their titles against Cody Jones and Copycat in a brutal, one-sided mauling.  Big Business has been on a tear ever since winning the titles and continued their dominance again against a team that has great skills in the ring, but is just a bad matchup against the champs.

The Coronation of the Golden Goddess Venus also took place as Bobby Starr was there to MC the festivities.  But before the crowning, Starr and Venus both called down Johnson to the ring to apologize to Venus for past behavior.  As these things tend to do for Venus, it backfired and Johnson ended up with the tiara in his hands and worse yet for Venus, “The Megastar” Angel Blue made her return to IZW as she and Venus threw down until Blue kicked Venus out of the ring.

NAAFS: Caged Vengeance 12 Preview

Poster coming soon!

The North American Allied Fight Series (NAAFS) returns on October 20 on GFL.tv with Caged Vengeance 12, from the Z-Plex at STRINGZ AND WINGZ in Streetsboro, Ohio.  The Ohio-based NAAFS has been a proving ground for tons of MMA fighters who have made their way to the UFC and Strikeforce.  NAAFS continues to promote the Midwest’s premier up and coming fighters and Caged Vengeance 12 will only add to the storied history of NAAFS.

In the main event, Jay Buck (14-11) from G2 faces Nick Duell (19-6-1) from Strong Style Fight Team in a welterweight clash.  Buck is coming off a submission victory in less than a minute and has fought all over the Midwest and carved out a nice following for himself.  Buck likes to mix up his attacks and has several wins via KO and submission on his record.  His high risk style also has made him vulnerable in some instances, but Buck continues to be a fan favorite.  Duell is the former NAAFS Welterweight Champion and defended the belt several times in a NAAFS cage.  Duell will look to take the next step in reclaiming his title by trying to take out Buck in impressive fashion.  Duell is from Ohio and will have the larger cheering section in the bout and look to impose his will on Buck by starting hot out of the gate.  Duell is known for getting after opponents early and prefers to not go through a feeling out process.  Expect fireworks from the opening bell.

In the co-main event, former NAAFS Amateur Featherweight Champion, Mark Cherico (10-0) from Fight Club Pittsburgh fights against Jason Lawrence (5-3) from Prodigy MMA in a pro 145 lb bout.  This fight is worth the price of admission just on its merits alone.  Cherico is a submission wizard winning as both his professional and  amateur career are chalk full of submission wins, so look for Cherico to try to take the fight to the mat as quick as possible.  Lawrence is a heavy puncher but also has a strong ground game as he won his last fight via submission.  But Lawrence likes to end fights via his hands and strong ground and pound.  Expect this fight to be all over the cage; on the feet, on the mat and up against the fence.  Whatever way this fight goes, you can expect high octane action as both are known for giving the fans a great show.

Don’t miss Caged Vengeance 12 presented by NAAFS on October 20.  Watch all the action and witness the champions of tomorrow, live on the GFL Combat Sports Network exclusively on iPPV.

Dead Serious V Preview

Poster coming soon!

Hard hitting MMA action returns to the Rahway Rec Center in Rahway, New Jersey as Dead Serious MMA presents “Dead Serious V” on October 27 live on the GFL Combat Sports Network.  Dead Serious MMA is planning to blow the roof off in Rahway by giving the fans multiple title bouts on the card.

In the main event, for the Light Heavyweight Championship, Champion Jose Pinto (3-0) defends his title against Charles Finnegan (1-2).  Pinto is an exciting 205 lb fighter who likes to grind his opponents out on the mat, but also has a solid set of grappling skills and can end the fight with a submission.  This will be Pinto’s first title defense as he won the belt back at “Dead Serious Four” in May.  The native of New Jersey, Pinto, will look to push the pace early and keep that pace for as long as the fight goes.  Pinto’s conditioning is the strongest part of his MMA game.  For Finnegan, this is an opportunity to jump to the head of the pack with one fight.  Not only can he even up his record with a win, but he can also call himself a champion.  Finnegan is coming off a tough split decision loss in his last fight that many observers felt he won.  Equipped with heavy hands, Finnegan is in every fight because he has the power to end a fight with one punch.  Expect this fight to be contested all over the cage as these to gladiators go for broke.

In the co-main event, for the Lightweight Championship, Champion Chris Sladky (4-0) fights Jake SaintJuste (3-1).  This will be Sladky’s second title defense and he has proven himself time and time again in the cage as evidenced by his perfect record.  Sladky loves the grappling game and has submitted half of his opponents.  An all-around fighter, Sladky looks to show off his striking game in his bout with SaintJuste.  For SaintJuste, he comes into the fight with also two wins to his credit via submission.  This will be SaintJuste’s first title fight, so Sladky will look to utilize any pre-fight jitters to his advantage. But SaintJuste is a fighter that has put in the time in the gym and in the cage and has proven he has the cardio to go a full fight, so don’t expect him to have an adrenaline dump.  This bout is an early candidate for fight of the night.

East Coast MMA is ready to deliver again!  Be sure to catch all of the action, LIVE on October 27 as the Dead Serious MMA presents “Dead Serious V” exclusively at GFL.tv.

"Combat at the Capitale 28" Review

Poster coming soon!

Lou Neglia and Ray Longo presented World Championship Kickboxing with "Combat at the Capitale 28" at the famous Capitale in New York City, New York. The full rules Muay Thai card was anchored by two championship fights that were great examples of the growing enthusiasm for the world’s most unique striking sport.

In the main event, Andrew Ball from Neglia Competition Team defeated James Harmony from Black and Blue MMA via decision to win the 185 lb Muay Thai Championship. Ball is an experienced fighter who mixed up his attacks well and was the aggressor in the fight.  There was a decent amount of clinch work in this bout and both men did damage in the tight quarters but Harmony threw Ball to the ground several times, which didn’t score any points, but did stop Ball’s attacks from the position.  Ball’s most effective weapon was a straight front kick and he landed some nice punches including a flying straight left.   It was a very exciting bout from both men, as they delivered a great main event.

In the co-main event, Stephen Regman from Team Tiger Schulmann defended his 168 lb Muay Thai Championship against Roland Barringer from Capital MMA & Elite Fitness via unanimous decision.   Regman had the loudest cheering section of the night, as there is nothing like a Tiger Schulmann backed fighter.  Regman used good spacing to land his punches and kicks throughout the night and seemed to win every round with his accurate striking.  Barringer continued to attack as well and also landed some solid kicks and punches, but Regman was the busier fighter and racked up more strikes in each round giving him a comfortable victory via decision.  Regman has been on a tear lately and continued to build on his already well rounded game by showing a precise level of striking as well as mixing up his attacks to keep Barringer off balance and on the defensive.

If you love nonstop, full-throttle striking, then "Combat at the Capitale 28" is must-see TV. This event goes hand in hand with Neglia's other combat sports venture, Ring of Combat, and give combat fans in the tri-state area another avenue to watch some of the best East Coast martial artists compete. Watch as the brave warriors display the science of the eight limbs and use punches, kicks, knees and elbows and do it the Big Apple on VOD. Order this event exclusively at GFL.tv.
