Asylum Fight Leauge 40 Preview

Poster coming soon!

Asylum Fight League is back with its latest installment Asylum Fight League 40 on March 2 from the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, New Jersey.   This 15-bout amateur card will feature some of the top prospects on the East Coast.

In the main event, Anthony Pipola (2-0) fights Adam Pakiela (1-3) in a battle of New York welterweights.  Pipola brings an undefeated record into the cage after two hard fought wins via decision.  Pipola has great wrestling and cardio and likes to wear his opponents down by outworking them over the course of a full fight.  Pipola also has a chin made of granite and is a tough draw for any fighter in the welterweight division.  Pakiela is another fighter who likes to take his opponents deep into the fight.  With 2 controversial split decision losses on his record, Pakiela is much tougher than his record might imply.  Pakiela has worked hard on his cardio and is determined to not let another decision go against him.  Look for Pakiela to push the pace early and try to take the fight out of the judges’ hands.  This fight has two up and coming fighters with bright futures and a lot to gain from a decisive victory.

In other action, Al Amoroso (0-2) battles Lawrence Perna (0-0) in a heavyweight bout that could just as easily be fought in a telephone booth.  Amoroso and Perna are both looking to notch their first victory in this sport.  Amoroso will have the decided size and experience advantage.  Returning to MMA after a 2 year hiatus, Amoroso is anxious to show the world he is a new and improved fighter.  Perna is a compact fighter at only 5’ 10” he is built like a brick and throws punches with heavy hands.  Don’t blink once the opening bell rings as these two will be throwing leather.

Asylum Fight League 40 comes to you live and direct on March 2.  With a 15-bout fight card you can be sure there will be plenty of knockouts, submissions and great fights.  Don’t miss this exciting event which has become a proving ground for some of the top fighters in the North East.  If you can’t be there live, the only way to see this show is to order it exclusively through the GFL Combat Sports Network at GFL.tv.

Power Rankings for IZW Superstars

On February 16, 2013, the world of Impact Zone Wrestling (IZW) was tossed on its head.  Violent Valentine was anchored by 3 championship matches.  3 titles were on the line and 3 new champions were crowned. In the chaos and aftermath, one thing is clear…IZW is always evolving.  If you’re looking to keep the status quo and tread water, then you will be eaten alive in the shark tank that is the Impact Arena.  IZW has provided opportunities for wrestlers on the Independent scene to either make or break their careers.  A weekly television series, broadcast live every Saturday night at 8pm EST and available on multiple platforms via GFL.tv on a global scale, a monthly 2-hour show on The Comcast Network (TCN) and Comcast SportsNet (CSN) reaching an audience of over 22 million homes and now IZW’s coup de grace to all other Independent, regional promotions, IZW Adrenaline, a one-hour, bi-weekly television series on CSN that is set to reach millions and millions of households scattered across the country starting in March.

With the IZW brand and footprint continuing to increase and expand the opportunities for wrestlers on its roster, this article will serve as the first of an unofficial power ranking for some of the more noteworthy wrestlers.  This article is definitely not a be-all and end-all, but more a jumping off point for discussion.  Fans are welcome to add their opinions, through social media comments, while also supporting their IZW Superstar by tuning into GFL.tv every Saturday night and watching IZW Adrenaline every other week on Comcast.  Without further ado, here’s PART 1 of the TOP 10 IN IZW covering 1-5.  PART 2 covering 6-10 will follow in the weeks to come.

1.       IZW Champion, The Convict
What more can you say about a man then he holds the most prestigious title in his company and a territory that covers the vast region of the Southwest and Central States?  If you are talking about The Convict, then you can say a lot.  The Convict has a shady past to be sure, serving years in various prisons across the country for committing multiple, violent acts.  Once The Convict got released from his latest stint in Oklahoma, he wasted little time in making a name for himself in IZW, while gaining a reputation as a man that seemingly has no weak spots.  The Convict has only been knocked down a few times in his entire wrestling career and to make matters worse on his opponents, his recuperative power is second to none as he doesn’t stay down for long.  No matter what or who you throw at The Convict, it’s hard to keep this man down.  The Convict became IZW Champion less than month ago, and it will be telling to see now that the shiny, hot lights are focused squarely on the man of mystery will he thrive or wilt under the spotlight?  It’s one thing to be a world-beater and be so much more physically superior to everyone else as you climb the ranks.  But what happens when get to the top and you are stuck in the pressure cooker with a giant bullseye on your chest as the world’s most elite wrestlers are gunning for your spot?

2.      Double D
When talking about thriving in the midst of adversity, that sums up the history and legacy of Double D.  The biggest threat to The Convict’s title run is none other than the man that previously held the title.  The Captain of the Force has proven time and time again that nobody in wrestling has a bigger heart.  D has long been one of the most beloved wrestlers in the Oklahoma territory and now worldwide thanks to the exposure IZW has been able to garner over the past two years.  Long and lean, Double D uses his body as a weapon dropping sharp knees and flying through the air like no one in IZW’s history.  But what separates D from his peers is his one-track mind surrounded by enough grit and determination to accomplish anything he sets his mind to.  Even if the odds seemed stacked against him, Double D has never and will never back down from a challenge in the ring.  Whether it’s running former NWA World Champion and WWE and ROH veteran “Shooter” Brent Albright out of IZW after a hellish beating in a No Holds Barred/No Disqualification Match, or bringing the fight to his current foe, The Convict, Double D is a modern day gladiator cut from the same cloth as Spartacus who will fight anyone at any time.

3.      Impact Division Champion, Damien Morte
Few people in history have used their body more effectively as a weapon than the reigning Impact Division Champion.  A monster lurking in the shadows, Damien Morte is a one-of-a-kind sociopath and a sadist in the strongest terms.  Inflicting pain on others is his primary goal and if he has to use his own body as a means to that end, he will do so each and every time.  Injuries are just another day at the office for this human crash test dummy.  It’s not just talk and hyperbole with Morte.  He’s broken a collar bone, broken fingers, had surgery on his right shoulder, dislocated his arm and had dozens of concussions all in the name of the sport he is driven to compete and excel in.  But it’s all been worth it as Morte proved that he is “Impact” while carrying the visual evidence of that fact in the form of the Impact Division Title for all to see.  Even more amazing then Morte’s title run as Impact Division Champion, is that he will literally risk his life to retain his title.  Morte has several of the more jaw-dropping moments in wrestling history including jumping from the top of a mezzanine into a Senton Bomb while crashing through a pair of tables onto his opponent in a Falls Count Anywhere Match.  What kind of damage can you inflict on a man who doesn’t even care about his own well-being?  That is the question opponents of Damien Morte have to answer for themselves.

4.      Jermaine Johnson
Johnson is quite simply the total package; an expert grappler, tremendous showman and all-around athlete.  Johnson’s future is almost limitless as recently shown by his tryout with WWE and one of several IZW competitors who was involved in the TNA Gut Check program.   With a combination of raw potential mixed with hard work, they sky is the limit for Johnson.   Up until very recently, nobody in IZW could touch Johnson in Specialty Matches, including an Impact Rules Match, Steel Cage Match, TLC Match, Impact X Match, or any other type of twisted, special-rules contest.  Johnson is one of only two men in history to be an IZW Triple Crown Winner.  Yet recently The Leader of the Hype Section has lost his crown as the Impact Division Champion and has found himself in an all-out dog fight with Damien Morte.  Johnson has never shied away from competition and his win/loss record against a who’s who of IZW’s finest proves that if you’re looking for a fight, you better bring your A+ game when squaring off against Johnson.  Johnson seems best suited for another run at the IZW Championship sooner than later which is currently center stage in a deadly feud between The Convict and Double D.

5.       “The Bronze Bull” Aaron Neil
Nobody in IZW history has built a more meaningful legacy inside the ring than Neil. Neil has passed through tons of territories in his storied career, from Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and even Japan.  But it is his time in Oklahoma, specifically IZW, where Neil has grown into a living legend.  A 6-time IZW Champion, with his first IZW Title run in 2005 and his most recent title run in 2012, Neil has been a key figure in IZW since its humble beginnings as a startup promotion to its current contributions to the sport where the organization now has broadcast deals on multiple platforms and is available to millions of people across the globe.  Neil has conquered a host of talented wrestlers inside an IZW ring ranging from Hall of Famers like Big Van Vader and Dusty Rhodes to the rising Superstars of today like Double D and Jermaine Johnson.  Neil has over a decade of experience in one of the most physically grueling professions in the world, yet he is as good today as he’s ever been.  Fans can question some of his personal decisions inside of the ring, but no one can question Neil’s results.  Neil is the measuring stick for every wrestler that steps foot into IZW and no other person has done more for the company inside the squared circle than “The Bronze Bull”.

Xtreme Combat Promotions "Randolph Rampage" Preview

Poster coming soon!

Xtreme Combat Promotions, New England’s premier MMA organization, returns to GFL on March 9 as it presents Randolph Rampage, a 17-bout pro/am card emanating from Vermont Technical College.   XCP has been on a tear lately and this is their third event which will be broadcast worldwide on GFL.tv in 2013.  This event features a stacked card with the top up and combing prospects inside the New England area with a special treat for local fans as it will be the Northeast Assassins VS Contenders Gym in a rivalry that is sure to heat up the night!

In the main event, New Hampshire native Matt Durling (5-0) battles Jay MacLean (4-2) in a bantamweight scrap.  Durling is an undefeated fighter with KO power in both hands as well as a strong grappling game.  Already a title holder in two other organizations, Durling is no stranger to main event, big fights.  He will look to push the pace against MacLean and try and force MacLean into making a mistake that Durling can take advantage of to end the fight.  MacLean is riding a 4-fight win streak and is also a champion in his own right, carrying a belt for another promotion.  MacLean has shown an ability to grind out his opponents and in the process of a three round fight, break their wills.  MacLean is methodical in his approach as he keeps coming forward looking to press the action.  This will be a barnburner when these two 135 lb fighters step into the cage.

In other action, Nick Allowe fights Dan Ladd in a super heavyweight bout that is sure to put to the test the craftsmanship of the steel cage.  Allowe will come into the fight north of 285 lb and Ladd will not be far behind.  Allowe has decent cardio for a huge man and every punch he throws is with power.  Ladd is almost a mirror image as he also likes to let his fists do the talking and go head hunting at every opportunity.  Don’t blink during this fight as these two brahma bulls are going to do some damage.

You won’t find more BANG for your buck so order this thrilling event.  Be sure to catch all of the action LIVE on March 9 as Xtreme Combat Promotions presents Randolph Rampage.

IZW March 2 Preview on GFL.tv

Poster coming soon!

The March 2 edition of IZW on GFL.tv is shaping up to be a no-nonsense type of card as egos are running high and verbal checks are going to have to be cashed.  It’s a new day in IZW and the rough and tumble style of professional wrestling cultivated in the Sooner State is like no other.  For hard hitting, relentless action, tune in to IZW every Saturday night at 8:00pm EST to see wrestling’s finest put it all on the line and always in HD.

Already booked in tag team action, it will be Impact Division Champion Damien Morte and his partner Copycat versus “The Natural Born Leader” Johnny Z and Jermaine Johnson in what promises to be a knockdown, drag out fight.  These four wrestlers will square off in singles competition at March Mayhem on March 23 with Morte defending his title against Johnson in a Falls Count Anywhere Match while Copycat and Z faceoff in another bout.  This tag team contest is a great opportunity to set the table for March Mayhem and allow each wrestler to scout his future singles opponent up close and personal.  Morte is a man possessed right now and full of Impact in everything he does.  Can Morte push Johnson’s buttons and get under the skin of the Leader of the Hype Section?  Morte has proven to be a human Gumby with an almost unbreakable spirit and body but will Johnson find a weak point, a chink in Morte’s armor, that he can use to his advantage during this bout and more importantly later on in March when the Impact Division Title will be at stake?  Copycat and Johnny Z have been chomping at the bit to fight one another since Violent Valentine and this will be their first chance to put hands on one another.  Will the Master of Mind Games, Johnny Z, find a mental weakness in Copycat that he can exploit or will Copycat, full of piss and vinegar, be able to thwart any extracurricular activities Z has planned by sheer power and aggression?

With Double D and The Convict still in hyper drive mode in their feud over the IZW Title, this week is bound to add another layer to the already combustible rivalry.  D will get his rematch at March Mayhem, but don’t be surprised if these warriors can’t wait until March 23.  They are like oil and water.  Each time the two cross paths fisticuffs follow.  Both promise to be in the Impact Arena where more blood will be spilt.

And what about the saga of “The Brass Bull” Bobby Starr?  Last week he picked up a solid victory against Kevin Morgan, but was destroyed by his former mentor, “The Bronze Bull” Aaron Neil only moments later.  Is Starr really prepared to square off against the big boys of Impact Elite?  Neil has never looked more determined to hurt and cripple a man and that doesn’t bode well for Starr.

This is who we are! Watch all the feuds and all the rivalries inside and outside of the ring. Tune in to the Southwest's premiere wrestling federation and find out what will happen next. Feel the Impact!

School of Hard Knocks 31: Estevan Preview

Poster coming soon!

Central Canada’s top MMA promotion returns as Hard Knocks Fighting Championship presents School of Hard Knocks 31: Estevan, on March 2 at the Spectra Place.  The action packed 15-bout amateur card features many of the top up and coming superstars of the Great White North.  HKFC is the top proving ground for rising prospects in Western Canada and the 31st installment promises to deliver great fights once again.

In the main event, Devon “The Giant Killer” Smith (5-1) from Prestige Worldwide fights Kevin Legasse (3-1) from I&C Kickboxing/Team Extreme in a light heavyweight scrap.  Smith is riding a 5 fight win streak all by stoppage with 4 KOs.  Power in both hands, Smith loves to bring the action to his opponent and can always be found in the center of the cage ready to trade strikes.  Smith is known around Canada for chopping down much bigger opponents and he has another one in Legasse who is ripped to shreds and a physical specimen.  Legasse is on a 4 fight win streak with 2 stoppages via submission.  A champion for another organization, Legasse is feared my most in his weight class.  This shapes up to be a classic battle of two gritty fighters looking to prove who the top dog at 205 lb is.

In co-main event, Chris Chapman (4-1) representing Arashido battles David Swanson (3-1) out of Winnipeg Academy of MMA in a lightweight tilt.  Chapman has won his last 4 fights with 2 via TKO.  Chapman has steadily been improving his all-around MMA game and is just as dangerous on the ground as he is on his feet.  Chapman also has a strong wrestling base which lets him dictate where the fight goes in most of his bouts.  Swanson is almost a mirror of Chapman with a well-rounded overall game and has shown in the past he can end fights with his fists or his submission grappling.  Swanson has also worked on his cardio and is ready to go to war for 3 rounds if need be.

Don’t miss this electrifying event featuring Western Canada’s finest MMA athletes as Hark Knocks Fighting Championship presents School of Hard Knocks 31: Estevan on March 2 in front of a packed house.  Hard Knocks Fighting Championship always produces great fights and this event will be no different.  Order this event now at GFL.tv.

IZW February 23 Edition on GFL.tv

Poster coming soon!

The February 23 edition of IZW TV was the first event since the jaw dropping iPPV, Violent Valentine only a week earlier.   With new champions crowned in every division, IZW was turned on its head and this was the first chance to see all of the ramifications and fallout and witness the new path and direction of IZW.
To kick off the show, Jordan Jacobs welcomed “The Bronze Bull” Aaron Neil and “The Brass Bull” Bobby Starr to the Lights Out Lounge for a Golden Confrontation.  Starr came out first and the crowd was squarely in his corner and would not let Jacobs get a word in edge-wise.  Neil and Madam Commissioner Erica came out next.  Erica gave Starr a brow-beating for ruining her celebration at Violent Valentine, and told Starr to get down on his knees and beg for mercy.  Starr refused citing, The Gods Have Spoken, and told Erica and Neil that the Gods had better plans.  Instead, The Gods told Starr to challenge Neil to a match to show Neil and everyone else that The Gods have chosen “The Brass Bull” over “The Bronze Bull”!  Erica put a stop on a Starr versus Neil match and instead booked Starr in a bout with “The Image of War” Kevin Morgan for later in the evening.

In the first bout of the night, “The Bronze Bull” Aaron Neil defeated O’Malley.  Neil looks to have moved on rather quickly from the departed Venus as Erica accompanied Neil to the ring for his match.  At one point the two goliaths traded punches in the center of the ring, with O’Malley landing haymaker after haymaker, while Neil’s punches were blocked.  This had Neil on Easy Street as after a couple of clotheslines by O’Malley, Neil was looking for his bearings as he crawled around the ring.  Jacobs came down to the ring as his night wasn’t over yet, and got O’Malley to notice him, while Erica occupied the ref’s attention.    O’Malley landed a straight right that knocked Jacobs through the ropes and out of the ring.  But the quick thinking Jacobs used this to his advantage as he scurried around to the other side of the ring and grabbed ahold of O’Malley’s feet as O’Malley tried to suplex Neil back into the ring.  Upsetting O’Malley’s base was enough to spell doom as Neil pancaked on top of O’Malley and got the pin aided by Jacobs who continued to hold O’Malley’s legs to the mat.

Next up, “The Big Picture” Damon Windsor took on the returning Brandon Groom.  The Oklahoman Groom is a former WWE Superstar with a solid amateur background.  Windsor was unimpressed and started off strong using his size to his advantage and working Groom around the ring.  But Groom came back as he defended a choke slam attempt by Windsor and also caught a kick.  Groom executed some deep arm drags followed by a rollup pin with a bridge that Windsor kicked out of at 2.  Groom then grabbed a side head lock and controlled Windsor down on the mat.  The wrestlers returned to their feet, where Groom got Windsor down again, this time with a hip toss that would make any judoka proud.  Windsor got back to his feet and made Groom pay this time with a running forearm that dropped Groom dead in his tracks.  Windsor then took more steam out of Groom’s sail by choking him in the corner followed by a sidewalk slam.  But Groom fought back and delivered two back elbows followed up by a chest rattling clothesline that sent Windsor down hard.  Groom hoisted Windsor up onto his shoulder, did an airplane spin and then slammed Windsor down to the mat, head first, in a modified Death Valley Driver, getting the pinfall in his return to IZW.

Next up was Catching Some Z’s with Johnny Z where “The Natural Born Leader” revealed that at March Mayhem on March 23, newly minted Impact Division Champion Damien Morte will face Jermaine Johnson in a Falls County Anywhere Match.

In other action, Jermaine Johnson and Copycat squared off in singles competition.  Johnson took after Cat like a bat out of hell, making Copycat pay for his actions at Violent Valentine, which secured the victory for Morte over Johnson.  But Copycat fought back and landed a slam with a roll through that crushed Johnson’s ribs.  A knee to the forehead later and it looked bleak for Johnson.  But Johnson maneuvered out of Copycat’s doppelganger and hit Copycat with a clothesline.  But that wasn’t enough as Copycat grabbed a standing, arm in, rear naked choke, very similar to an arm triangle choke.  Johnson went down to the mat and was almost out from the choke, but found an inner strength to get back to his feet.  Johnson was able to break free by backing Copycat up into the corner, but Copycat came back with a running clothesline that hit Johnson so hard he was parallel to the mat six feet in the air, until he came crashing down.  Copycat went up to the top rope where he began to jaw with Johnny Z who was standing outside of the ring and this gave Johnson enough time to run up the ropes himself and toss Copycat over his head with a belly to belly suplex.  Johnson rose to his feet and was prepared to deliver an ES2 from the second rope, but Damien Morte jumped into the ring and started hitting Johnson in the midsection, forcing the ref to call for a disqualification.  This prompted Z to jump into the ring as Johnson and Z took it to Copycat and Morte, bouncing them out of the ring.  After the bout Z made his second match for March Mayhem as it will be Johnny Z versus Copycat in an Impact Rules Match.    Z also booked a match for next week in tag team action matchmaking himself and Jermaine Johnson versus Damien Morte and Copycat.

In the main event, “The Brass Bull” Bobby Starr took on “The Image of War” Kevin Morgan in a match that looked like David VS Goliath.  Morgan wanted to start off with a test of strength but Starr caught a jumping headlock that brought Morgan down to his level.  Starr then went to work in the corner landing punches, shoulder blocks and an assortment of other moves that had Morgan doubled over in pain.  Starr went for his bull charge, but Morgan caught him midway through the move and slammed the smaller man down easy with a standing powerbomb that crushed Starr’s spine.  After a failed pinning attempt, Morgan grabbed a bear hug as Starr started to wither.  Starr broke free and landed a flying crossbody off the ropes that sent Morgan down.  With the referee down and out, the victim of being caught in the middle of another bull charge, Starr landed a low blow, and then hit Morgan with his brass scepter.  Starr then landed a Greetings From Mt Olympus and got the pin on the much bigger Morgan in an epic feat of strength.  But Starr’s moment in the sun didn’t last long as Neil came down to the ring and clobbered Starr with vicious right hands to the back of Starr’s head.  A spinebuster later and Starr was done.  But that wasn’t enough for Neil who pulled out a table from underneath the ring.  Neil delivered the most violent move of the night by sending Starr through the table with a Greetings From Mt. Olympus.

Former IZW Champion Double D came down to the ring to address the IZW World.  The Force was in full effect as D made it clear, as only he can, that he was not afraid of The Convict and wasn’t going anywhere.  The Captain of The Force cashed in his automatic rematch clause and will use it at March Mayhem when he faces The Convict one more time for the IZW Title.  The Convict came down to the ring to confront The Convict as it looked like he didn’t want to wait until March 23.  These two alpha males stood face to face with one another until D started landing forearms to The Convict’s head.  But The Convict snuck in a knee to the mid-section that bent Double D over.  D recovered enough to land a series of knees in the corner, followed by punches to the face as The Convict slumped over the ropes giving Double D time to land his version of the 619 with a knee to The Convict’s face.  A bulldog into a knee and a flying crossbody later and Double D had knocked The Convict off of his feet!  Respect the Force!

This is who we are! Nobody does it better! Watch all the feuds and all the rivalries inside and outside of the ring. Tune in to the Southwest's premiere wrestling federation and find out what will happen next. Watch professional wrestling like it's supposed to be, rough and tumble and always in HD at GFL.tv.

Cage Wars XX Review

Poster coming soon!

Xtreme Fight Events returned with Cage Wars XX, a pro/am card, emanating from the Harrah's Casino in Chester, Pennsylvania.  Cage Wars has quickly solidified itself in Pennsylvania as a top-tier MMA event by providing fans with nonstop, full throttle fighting from start to finish.  Cage Wars XX continued this string of amazing fights.

In the main event, in the pro ranks, Bryan Danner (3-2) defeated Darius Yancy (2-3) via unanimous decision after a brawl in a lightweight scrap.  It was a great fight as both gladiators came to win with Yancy landing solid shots including a variety of elbows while Danner was able to neutralize much of Yancy’s striking with solid wrestling in the clinch and also landing takedowns that stymied Yancy’s offence.  Danner kept up a frenetic pace with his wrestling and once he got Yancy down he controlled him on the mat.  All in all it was a very close fight, but Danner’s wrestling ability, control and top position on the mat gave him the nod and the well-deserved win.

In the co-main event, also in the pro division, Frank Buenafuente (2-1) defeated Matthew Brannon (1-1) via rear naked choke in round one.  Brannon started out by landing some solid strikes including a head kick, but Buenafuente was relentless in looking for the takedown and landed one as he moved to Brannon’s back.  The action transitioned back to the feet with Buenafuente holding a body triangle on Brannon and still looking for a choke from Brannon’s back.   Brannon tried to fight the submission off, but Buenafuente stayed calm and just re-applied the hold until finally sinking the choke in under Brannon’s chin.  The fighters fell back to the mat, where Brannon tapped out.

Xtreme Fight Events returned with epic fighting in front of a worldwide audience courtesy of the GFL Combat Sports Network.  Watch Cage Wars XX anytime on video on demand and own it for life only on GFL.tv.

TaKe On Muay Thai XIX Review

Poster coming soon!

Muay Thai was center stage at the Resorts World Casino as TaKe-On Productions presented TaKe On Muay Thai XIX, a 15-bout full contact Muay Thai event at the first ever casino in New York City. The card featured at hotly anticipated main event and co-main event in the professional ranks with some of the key figures in the rising sport.

In the main event, Wayne Barrett defeated Strahinja Ivanovic via verbal submission do to strikes in the second round.  Barrett was accurate with his punches and kicks landing to Ivanovic’s body, head and legs as Barrett continued to apply the pressure and dominate the center of the ring.  Barrett was dominant in exchanges as he had the range and would throw and land strikes while Ivanovic could only absorb the strikes for much of the fight.  Near the end of the second round, Barrett landed a series of body punches that hurt Ivanovic, and Barrett kept up the barrage as he had Ivanovic cornered.  After a quick break after some clinch work, Barrett went back on the attack landing solid overhand rights.  Ivanovic turned his head and waved the fight off as the ref jumped in between the fighters.  It was surprising that Ivanovic quit seemingly out of nowhere, but the previous torrent of body shots by the bigger Barrett could have broken a rib, as the right hands to the head were solid, but Ivanovic was in no danger of being knocked out when he called off the fight.

In the co-main event, Sean Fagan retained his TaKe-On 145 lb title with a grueling majority decision after five rounds over tough challenger Omar Estevez.  Fagan landed some nice combinations in the fight, but could not stop Estevez who seemed almost like the Terminator in his pain tolerance as he stayed in front of Fagan all night and made him work harder than he’s ever had to work in a fight.  In the fifth and deciding round, Fagan came out hard on the attack landing punches and front kicks as he backed Estevez up in the corner.  Fagan continued to be the aggressor as after some brief clinch work, Fagan again was able to put Estevez on his heels.  Estevez landed some leg kicks but they did little to stop Fagan’s attack as there was not a lot of power behind them as Estevez was still backing up. It was a solid win for Fagan who retains his title and builds on his momentum as one of the blue chip prospects of TaKe-On.  Even in defeat, Estevez continued to fight until the very end and was a game opponent for all five rounds.

If you love the art of striking, there is no better iPPV for you to order than TaKe On Muay Thai XIX. Take-On Productions always puts on great shows and this event was another feather in the cap of the East Coast kingpin of Muay Thai.  Order now.

GFL Presents "REAL FIGHTS" on the Comast Network & Comcast SportsNet with Boxing from Dover Downs

GFL PRESENTS “REAL FIGHTS” ON  THE COMCAST NETWORK & COMCAST SPORTSNET
BOXING IS BACK FROM DOVER DOWNS HOTEL & CASINO AS “FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS” TAKES CENTER STAGE

ON COMCAST TCN AND CSN SPORTSNET BEGINNING FEBRUARY 25

This weekend GFL and Comcast continue their weekly combat sports series, REAL FIGHTS, with top ranked boxing, as Dover Downs Hotel & Casino showcases another soon to be talked about boxing extravaganza with Friday Night Fights - From Dover Downs featuring a full slate of hotly contested matchups inside the ring anchored by a main event with the enigmatic Amir "Hardcore" Mansour (16-0) who takes on grizzled vet Dominique “Diamond” Alexander (23-15-1).  This will be Mansour’s first fight since being released from prison in July 2012.  Mansour had a bright future winning the NABO Heavyweight Title before he went away to serve time and now that he gets a second chance, every boxing fan and boxer in the heavyweight division is watching this bout intently to see if Mansour is still the blue chip prospect the experts pegged him as or if the time away from the ring is too much to overcome.

In the co-main event, Franklin “Yah Yah” Lawrence (18-2-2) takes on Mark “Oak Tree” Brown (15-4) in another solid bit of matchmaking.  Lawrence is in an unenviable position in the heavyweight division as he is feared by many and avoided by most.  Brown steps up to the challenge and if he is able to pull off the upset victory here, it could skyrocket his career to bigger paydays.  This is a must win for both fighters with a lot to prove and a lot to lose.

Xtreme Combat Productions "Battle in Plattsburgh" Review

Poster coming soon!

Xtreme Combat Productions returned to GFL as it presented Battle in Plattsburgh emanating from the Crete Civic Center in Plattsburgh, New York. This event was a stacked card featuring 14 bouts and 10 stoppages showcasing several of the brightest prospects inside the upper North East area. Xtreme Combat Productions is the premier MMA organization in the New England and now they have expanded their reach and are ready to put their stamp of high quality MMA on in the Empire State as one of GFL's rising organizations.

In the main event, for the Xtreme Combat Lightweight Championship, Dakota Giguere (4-0) defeated Champion Ian Beatease (4-2) via unanimous decision to win the title and become new champion.   The undefeated Giguere has never been to the third round before this fight but he was prepared and showed that his cardio conditioning is first class as he was able to withstand Beatease’s multiple attacks.  Neither fighter gave an inch in this fight and both gladiators brought the best out of each another.  Giguere was just a little more accurate with his punches as well as able to control the ground with solid wrestling and better positioning.

In other action Todd Duval (3-3) defeated Jay Bleeker (1-1) via KO in round one.  The victory brings Duval’s right record to .500 and it was something you could tell was important for Duval as he unloaded with huge strikes that caught Bleeker in a bad spot as the ref had to call a halt to the bout in the opening minutes of the fight.

You won't find more BANG for your buck so order this thrilling event. Be sure to catch all of the action anytime on video on demand as Xtreme Combat Productions presents Battle in Plattsburgh on pay-per-view exclusively at GFL.tv.

Lucha Xtreme Feb. 24 Preview on GFL.tv

Poster coming soon!

Lucha Xtreme (LX) is back on GFL as a weekly Sunday series and this week get ready to catch up on all things LX as everything centers on the upcoming iPPV where all LX titles will be on the line.

On the February 24 edition, Army veteran turned pro wrestler Matt Sparks takes on LJ Summers.  Both wrestlers are looking for a W here and Sparks is determined to show Summers what respect is, even if he has to beat it out of him.  Summers is brash, cocky and arrogant.  Everything Sparks despises.  This bout should be combustible.

More background on the rocky history of Lucha Xtreme World Champion AJ Kirsh and Brandon Groom’s feud leading into their heated match for the title gives newer fans a quick history lesson of recent feuds.
In the main event, Groom is in action as he battles Crimson Plague in a bout that Groom needs to win if he is going to keep him momentum heading into his bout with Kirsh.  Crimson Plague is not the type of wrestler to care about another man’s wants or needs and he will be ready to rain on Groom’s parade and spoil his party.
