CAGE FURY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS PRESENTS “CFFC XXIV – SULLIVAN VS BECKER” BEGINNING MAY 27

GFL and Comcast continue their weekly combat sports series, REAL FIGHTS, with world class MMA as Cage Fury Fighting Championships returns to Atlantic City to present another loaded card with CFFC XXIV - Sullivan VS Becker. CFFC has quickly set itself apart on the regional MMA scene by expanding its footprint up and down the Eastern seaboard while running shows at a furious pace. This event is another home run for CFFC as the card will be anchored by two titles fights!

In the main event, CFFC Welterweight Champion George Sullivan (12-3) battles undefeated Brandon Becker (6-0). Sullivan, who has been riding high after his TKO victory over Ultimate Fighter veteran Julian Lane, is feeling confident going into this bout. Since joining CFFC in 2011, Sullivan has gone undefeated in four fights, with three of them being for the title. "I feel (CFFC) is the best organization around, I'm so pleased to be their champion," continued Sullivan.

Becker knows he has his toughest test in his young career ahead of him, but will make the most of his opportunity. "Obviously CFFC is a great promotion. I would not have resigned with them if I had thought otherwise. I have fought for several others but none have been as well run and professional as CFFC."

In the co-main event, CFFC Flyweight Titleholder Sean “Shorty Rock” Santella (12-3-1) looks to defend his belt against Dave Morgan (5-2). Since moving down to his natural weight class, Santella has won four in a row. He feels as though he is on the cusp of the UFC and fighting is now strictly business. "I'm looking forward to the fight," said Santella. "Dave Morgan is a strong wrestler and I feel like I can finish my opponent anywhere the fight goes."

Fighting out of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Dave Morgan knows that he will have to bring his "A" game. "Fighting Santella is a huge opportunity," said Morgan. "He's top 15 in the world and to get where I want to go, I need to beat him. It's an amazing opportunity. I'm coming to fight and take that belt and defend it as many times as it takes for the UFC to notice."

Cage Rage 11: Long Weekend Smackdown Review on GFL.tv

Canadian Cage Rage, Atlantic Canada's premier Amateur MMA organization, returned with Cage Rage 11: Long Weekend Smackdown at the Lion's Club in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Cage Rage is a solid proving ground for MMA in Eastern Canada where the fighters are separated from the other Canadian hotbeds of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver and as such have their own unique fighting circuit. This stacked amateur card featured KOs, submissions and tons of high octane battles!

In the main event, in the heavyweight division, Paul Harris defeated Bernie Martin via rear naked choke in round two. In round one, Martin came out like a bat out of hell throwing punches and kicks while Harris was content to clinch or back pedal and get his spacing and timing down. Martin continued to swing and miss while Harris just backed up and didn’t throw anything. Martin started to connect, while Harris continued to taunt. Martin landed a few front kicks as the round wore on while Harris did his fair share of dodging most of Martin’s strikes. In round two, Martin continued throwing punches with Harris ducking and dodging. Finally, Harris started to engage and both he and Martin threw punches in bunches in the center of the cage. Harris connected with a big looping right hand that hurt Martin and continued his attack. Harris dropped Martin and followed him to the ground and landed more punches until the ref inexplicably grabbed Harris on the arms but then let the fight continue and Harris finished the fight with a choke. It was a weird ending, but Harris was in dominant position to win either with ground and pound or finally the submission.

In the co-main event, Eugene London (1-0) defeated Norm Robichaud (0-7) via TKO in round two. This was an inspirational match as the hometown star, London, lost his right arm in a farming accident just below the shoulder but that didn’t stop him from taking the fight to Robichaud. In round one, both London and Robichaud had a kickboxing match with London throwing and landing left hooks and leg kicks while Robichaud threw a couple low kicks. London won the round with his high volume striking. In round two, London connected with several hard left hooks that hurt Robichaud and finally ended the fight with a beautiful head kick that sent Robichaud down to the mat.

XFE XXIII Preview on GFL.tv

Xtreme Fight Events returns to Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack on June 1 with XFE XXIII. XFE has quickly solidified itself in Pennsylvania as the top-tier MMA event where rising stars step into the battleground looking to destroy their opponents.

In the main event, for the XFE Welterweight Title Justin Bonitatis (3-1) battles Brandon Odom (5-8). Bonitatis won the title back in December and this will be his first title defense. Bonitatis is an All-American wrestler and is known for grinding down his opponents and breaking their spirits in the cage. Odom brings an experience advantage into the cage and is a well-traveled vet fighting for the top regional organizations in the Mid-West and East Coast. Odom won his last fight via submission and he is hoping to continue that streak against Bonitatis which will be a tough task.

In other action, for XFE Lightweight Title Ryan Cafaro (6-3) takes on Ryan Holmes (3-1). Cafaro is a strong wrestler with powerful submissions and likes to control his opponent on the ground. Cafaro is very active on the ground and is always looking for the tapout. Holmes will have the height advantage as he stands at 6’0” and will look to use his reach to stay away from Cafaro’s takedowns. Holmes loves to pick his opponents apart and rack up points. This will be a contrast in styles pitting Cafaro’s ground game against the striking of Holmes.

CFFC XXIV Sullivan VS Becker Review on GFL.tv

Cage Fury Fighting Championships delivered another stellar event as CFFC returned to Atlantic City, New Jersey for CFFC XXIV Sullivan VS Becker. The top MMA fighters from around the East Coast showed why CFFC is the premier MMA organization in the area as every fight delivered with 7 of 11 fights ending in stoppages, as well as two title fights that lived up to the hype.

In the main event, George Sullivan (13-3) retained his CFFC Welterweight Championship with a TKO victory in the second round over gritty challenger Brandon Becker (6-1). Becker came into the bout undefeated and known for his strong wrestling but the Champ had too much for him and finished the bout in impressive fashion. Becker came out trying to land a high single takedown, but Sullivan hopped around on one foot showing great balance. Becker did finally get the fight to the mat, as he twisted Sullivan around and got the leverage needed to finish the takedown. Becker looked for a rear naked choke, but Sullivan defended it as they got back to their feet where Becker once again looked for a high single as Sullivan used the opportunity to land right hands to Becker’s face. The fight went back to the ground where Becker was holding an ankle as Sullivan landed a series of elbows to Becker’s head. Sullivan then got on top and landed more elbows. Becker got back to his feet and the two traded punches with Sullivan getting the better of the exchanges. Becker then went for another takedown and got it but ate more elbows to the head and body. The first round ended with both men on their feet working in the clinch. Round two began with both fighters trading strikes, as Becker was looking to land a body kick while Sullivan was measuring the distance with his jab and looking to throw his right. Sullivan continued to gain momentum as his punch count increased and he walked Becker down in the cage. Sullivan hit Becker with two hard body shots that forced Becker to shoot for a takedown which was partially stuffed by Sullivan. On the mat, Sullivan continued to land more body shots, and spun out of Becker’s grip and ended up on Becker’s back. From here, Sullivan unloaded with hard punches to Becker’s face finally causing the ref to stop the fight as Becker was almost completely out. This was a very impressive win for Sullivan who continues to knock down every opponent put in front of him.

In the co-main event, Sean “Shorty Rock” Santella (13-3-1) defeated Dave Morgan (5-3) via triangle choke to retain his CFFC Flyweight Crown. This was Santella’s fifth title fight in a row and he has won every one of them. Both fighters looked to strike in the early going and try to gauge the distance. Santella was a bit more active, while Morgan looked to get his timing down to throw a big right hand. Morgan slipped under a right hand by Santella and got the fight to the mat. Santella went for a triangle choke, but Morgan showed his brute strength by picking Santella up and slamming him to the canvas. But Santella was relentless from the position and continued to keep the triangle locked in. Santella grabbed Morgan’s left arm, and landed some elbows to Morgan’s head looking to improve his positioning on the choke and it worked as Santella was able to choke Morgan unconscious. This was another barnburner, something that has become synonymous with Santella fights as he continues to raise his stock in MMA.

Last week, we got to see the revival of one of IZW’s legendary dirt bags as the newly dubbed “What Wrestling Should Be” Jermaine Johnson let everyone know just where his loyalties lie. The self-proclaimed Problem Solver for Johnny Z and Impact Elite, Johnson seemed to pick up right where he left off a couple years ago as one of the driving forces behind Impact Inc., who at the time, was the baddest stable in IZW and a precursor to Impact Elite. Even though Johnson’s mouth was way out of line, especially when he threw Double D and the fans under the bus, Johnson’s wrestling still has to be respected as he is one of the premier grapplers not only in IZW but the surrounding territory, and up and down the Central States. With Johnson now turning his back on The Hype Section, is there anything this man won’t do to try and build his career, even if that means stepping on the necks of others?

Joining Johnson in Impact Elite was “The Image of War” Kevin Morgan as he took part in what can only be described as a violent felony as he and the rest of Impact Elite (Z, Johnson, The Convict and Jordan Jacobs) stomped a hole in “The Big Picture” Damon Windsor. With Big Business now ripped in half, Morgan fills the bodyguard role for Z and IE while Windsor is left a man without a country so to speak. Not only did Windsor lose his tag team partner, but he was also booted out of Impact Elite. How will running as a lone wolf suit Windsor? He’s usually always thinking a step or two ahead, and he will need to rely once again on his cerebral gifts if he is going to find a way to dig his career out of the gutter.

But all might not be as rosy for Impact Elite as they would have you believe. Co-commissioner “The Number 1” Shawn McHale promised to be in the Impact Arena this week as he had a special surprise for the members of IE. Knowing McHale, this will be something IE never expected and will slow down their plans for world domination. But with Johnny Z at the helm of Impact Elite, “The Natural Born Leader” will have mechanisms already in place so that even if McHale’s announcement throws him a curves, Z will have an answer for it somewhere down the line.

Impact Elite has run through a big chunk of the roster of wrestlers in IZW and they are just getting started. If IZW is going to survive while resembling some form of its glorious past, all hands must be on deck as every wrestler in the locker room that is not associated with IE needs to speak with a unified voice. But with so many wrestlers having individual and even short sighted agendas is that even possible? It very well could be a reality, especially now, with Double D and The Bronze Bull both sharing a common goal of overthrowing and destroying Impact Elite. These two legendary wrestlers could set the tone for the entire roster by joining forces.

Also on tap for this weekend, for the first time, security camera footage will be revealed on the hit and run that Impact Division Champion Damien Morte experienced after Coronation. As of this writing, the assailant or assailants are still a mystery. Hopefully the footage will shed some light onto what type of coward would use a 2-ton vehicle as a weapon to try and permanently incapacitate “The Patriot of Pain”.

Conflict MMA Promotions - Fight Night at the Point 9 Preview on GFL.tv

Conflict MMA Promotions returns on June 1 with Fight Night at the Point 9, a mega card, emanating from the Omar Shrine Temple in Mt Pleasant, South Carolina. Fight Night at the Point 9 promises to tear the house down as all the top fighters from the Dirty South will be squaring off in the cage in front of a rabid audience.

In the main event, Jeremy Severn (2-0) from South Carolina battles Lawson McClure (8-4) of Georgia. Severn has proven perfect in his professional career with both wins coming via stoppage in the first round. Severn is a well-rounded fighter who is known for his submission game, but has also improved his standup and it has started to pay dividends as he scored a TKO in his first pro bout. McClure brings the experience advantage into the cage and is looking to start a winning streak at Severn’s expense. McClure is a solid wrestler who grinds out opponents, breaking their wills over the course of a three round fight. McClure loves to bring the fight to his opponents and is always in attack mode. This will be a huge test for Severn as McClure is a cut above any other opponent he has faced. McClure is intent on giving Severn his first pro loss and will push the pace from the opening bell. Don’t miss this shootout.

In the co-main event, Jeremy Stevens (6-4) of South Carolina fights Keith Bell (3-2-1) from North Carolina in a heavyweight scrap. Stevens is coming off a controversial decision loss in his last outing and looks to change the tide when he steps into the cage on June 1. Stevens is a heavy puncher who has KO’d several opponents as well as getting a couple submission due to strikes. Every punch is thrown with malice from Stevens. Bell won his last fight in 12 seconds from a head kick. In fact, all but one of Bell’s fights have ended before the final bell. That makes Bell an unpredictable fighter as his high risk-high reward style of fighting is hard to game plan for. Expect fireworks from these two gladiators as odds are someone is going down hard.

ACW 250 Preview on GFL.tv

The leading professional wrestling organization in the Mountain West region returns to Colorado Springs, Colorado as well as GFL.tv as Asylum Championship Wrestling (ACW) presents ACW 250. This is the 250^thshow in ACW’s storied 11 year history and number 250 promises to continue to push the envelope and raise the stakes for the outlaw wrestling promotion.

At ACW Revolution, WWE Tough Enough Alum Martin Casaus became the new ACW Heavyweight Champion by working the system and eventually defeating The Candy Mann in a highly controversial series of events. Casaus feigned injury earlier in the night and when The Candy Mann lowered his guard, Casaus struck. What was even more jaw dropping was who Casaus aligned himself with, joining Quinn Industries, the new owner and face of ACW.

Jeremy Quinn returned to ACW with an assortment of rugged individuals in tow and has already made his presence felt as the new muscle behind ACW. Quinn Industries boasts the ACW Champion Casaus along with the ACW Tag Team Champions, The Investment, and also has a working relationship with former ACW Champion Danger Dean. This all-star cast has made any resistance to Quinn Industries almost a moot point. And rumor is, Quinn and Co. will be handing out pink slips to several active wrestlers on the ACW roster. A number of athletes will be walking on egg shells when they show up to the Big House Sports Arena. But if founder and former owner Brandon Bishop can do anything to throw a monkey wrench into the seemingly unstoppable machine that is Quinn Industries, he will. Expect Bishop to make his presence known as only he can on this card and continue to be a thorn in the side of Quinn Industries.

Every ACW Title to be on the line at ACW 250, when Martin Casaus makes his first title defense. The Investment is sure to find a pair of up and coming young grapplers that want to take a crack at their titles, rumor has it that the American Pitbulls are chomping at the bit for a shot. And of course, ACW Institutional Champion, Rob Ryzin will be in the house to put his title on the line. Also in breaking news, a Woman’s Champion will be crowned for the first time ever as six women go for gold!

Find out what happened to Paul “The Gamer” Stitch after suffering a fractured jaw at the hands of “The Widowmaker” Angel Williams at ACW Revolution. Stitch has something to get off of his chest and will be in the house and on the mic. IZW Adrenaline May 18 Review on GFL.tv

The May 18 of IZW Adrenaline episode began to bring into focus the actions of Jermaine Johnson at Coronation and why he turned his back on everything he ever stood for and aligned himself with IZW Champion Johnny Z. We also got an update on the situation of Impact Division Champion Damien Morte who was involved in a hit and run that put the “Patriot of Pain” on the shelf. IZW Adrenaline was also jam-packed with great wrestling and the evolution of Impact Elite.

In the opening bout, Big Business (Damon Windsor & Kevin Morgan) took on the East-West Playaz (Midnite Rider & Soto Miyagi) in tag team action. Both Morgan and Windsor worked over Miyagi in quick order giving Miyagi the boots, a clothesline and a jumping leg drop by Windsor. Miyagi battled back and tagged in Rider after a jaw breaker on Windsor then Rider followed up with a Russian leg sweep. Windsor would not stay down for long as he outmuscled Rider landing a clothesline and tagging in Morgan. After a quick tag by Miyagi, Morgan and Windsor looked like the Big Business of old here, working over Miyagi by always keeping a fresh man in the ring. It looked like their troubles at Coronation were behind them. Windsor hit a sidewalk slam and then went for a choke slam, but Miyagi wiggled out from behind and tagged in Rider who gave BB a double head butt. A couple bionic elbows later, and Big Business was seeing stars. With the ref distracted, Double D joined the fracas giving Big Business a springboard double mule kick followed by a flying knee to both Windsor and Morgan. Jermaine Johnson rushed out to the ring, along with Johnny Z and the rest of Impact Elite as Double D sprinted away. In all the commotion, Miyagi rolled up Windsor for the 1-2-3.

After the match, Johnson let the Impact Arena and everyone watching at home on GFL.tv know just why he sided with Johnny Z at Coronation. In Johnson’s mind, Double D is a phony and the people who cheer for Double D are no better. In Johnson’s view, D is a straight up cheater and a cheater that is applauded by the crowd. Johnson referenced the run in by Double D in Big Businesses match only moments before as proof to what he was talking about. Johnson called D a coward and made clear he was now a follower of “The Natural Born Leader”. Johnson pledged his allegiance to Z and promised to be a problem-solver for Z in whatever he needed. Johnson turned to Windsor and told him to his face that the problem with Impact Elite was him. After that, Johnson, Johnny Z, Jordan Jacobs, The Convict and Kevin Morgan, yes even Kevin Morgan, put the boots to Windsor in a gang-style beat down. Windsor was set up in the corner and everybody got a turn landing one of their top moves on the semi-conscious, now former member of Impact Elite, culminating with a Big Boot by ringmaster Johnny Z and a spear by former partner Morgan.

After the thrashing, “The Number 1” Shawn McHale appeared on the Impact Tron and let Z and everyone in Impact Elite know that he had something big in store for all of them in one week. In fact, McHale alluded to the fact that after next week, some of the members in IE might not be members anymore. You can bet that McHale has thought this thing through from every possible angle and will make good on his promise to shake things up with Impact Elite come next week.

In other news, the plot thickened in the Damien Morte hit and run scandal. It was announced that there is security camera footage showing the hit and run that put the Impact Division Champion on the shelf and that footage will be revealed next week. Morte is still resting and recovering and it took a 2 ton vehicle to do what no person in IZW could, put Morte in the hospital.

Up next was The Canadian Red Devil taking on “The Brass Bull” Bobby Starr. Starr is coming off a tremendous match at Coronation where he came inches away from winning the Impact Player of the Year Tournament against Jordan Jacobs. But it was not his night and he looked to regroup against CRD. CRD started out hot by grounding Starr with some solid mat-based wrestling. Devil isolated Starr’s left shoulder and twisted, torqued and attacked it with punches as he methodically began to break Starr down. At one point, Devil locked in the sharpshooter as a nod to Canadian great Bret Hart. Starr would not tapout as he got to the ropes and got the ref to break the hold. Starr finally turned the tide with a flying elbow and a flying clothesline in the corner. CRD made his comeback culminating by planting Starr on his face with a variation of the Unprettier. CRD went for another Unprettier but it was defended by Starr who slapped on the sleeper hold. Starr sunk in the choke deep under CRD’s chin and choked him out. After the bout, Impact Elite came out to the ring and decimated not only Starr but CRD as well. It appears, IE is not picky about dishing out beatings as Starr and Devil took the full force of an unprovoked stomping.

Up next, two of wrestling’s top grapplers locked horns as Double D took on Jordan Jacobs. This match was fast paced throughout as D and Jacobs chain wrestled for a while then Double D took charge and snapped Jacobs down to the mat and nearly knocked his block off with a knee to the head. Jacobs responded by attacking the knees of Double D, one of D’s best weapons, as “Lights Out” gained control. The two then traded chops finishing with D hitting a Force Chop, that knocked Jacobs off the ring apron and down to the floor. When the action resumed in the ring, Jacobs was able to hit a modified stunner with D’s neck and throat hitting the top rope and dropping him on the mat. Jacobs focused on D’s neck, sapping even more strength out of the Captain of the Force and lit D up with a running double knee to the chest in the corner. Jacobs then hit a nice suplex but D reversed an Irish whip and hit a missile drop kick from the top rope. D went up to the top rope for his patented crossbody, but Jacobs had scouted the move well and pushed D off his base, which crotched D. Jacobs then delivered a superplex from the top rope as these two put this match into high gear. Jacobs missed with another running double knees, and D made him pay with 10 knees to the face. Double D hit the flying crossbody this time as he pinned Jacobs to the mat. Jacobs’ night only got worse as The Bronze Bull came out and gave Jacobs a Greetings From Mt. Olympus.

The Bronze Bull then went on to challenge The Convict for another match right then and there to finish what they started. The Convict came out, with Erica and Jermaine Johnson in tow. But The Convict would not be wrestling tonight. Instead, Johnson stepped up to the plate as Impact Elite’s Problem Solver and challenged the Bronze Bull himself. Erica co-signed the new bout and booked it as the main event for the evening.

Up next, Striker took on the debuting Angel Camacho. Striker looked to use his speed as he stayed away from the power of Camacho. Striker went for a pinfall early with a sunset flip but Camacho kicked out. Striker followed up with chops to the chest but Camacho shook off the blows and blasted Striker in the corner with a body splash. Camacho made it two body splashes in a row followed by an enziguri that dropped Striker to the canvas. The Puerto Rican Powerhouse showed that not only does he possess immense power and force, but that he is also light on his feet. Camacho hit Striker with another body bump as Striker got the short end of the stick once again. Camacho got a 2-count with a splash/pin combo. Camacho continued with punches and forearms to Striker’s face. Out of nowhere, Striker was able to land a spinebuster and change the tone of the match. Not to be outdone, Camacho hit a Samoan drop. Camacho went to the top rope and looked for another splash, but this time, Striker moved out of the way and Camacho crashed and burned on the wrestling canvas. Striker immediately hit The Stroke and got the pinfall. Striker showed what a cagey veteran he is as he hung in there long enough to capitalize on Camacho’s misstep.

In the main event, “What Wrestling Should Be” Jermaine Johnson squared off against The Bronze Bull one on one. Bull bounced Johnson around the ring as he whipped Johnson’s body into the corners and made Johnson’s body a human pinball. Johnson rolled out of the ring to get his bearings, but The Bronze Bull followed him and smacked Johnson’s body against the guardrails while giving him overhand rights and chops to the chest. Johnson turned the tide, landing his own punches and using the metal barricade to his advantage. Johnson dragged Bull back into the ring and hit a knee to the solar plexus that made Bull yell out in pain. Bull tossed Johnson into the turnbuckle with such force that Johnson turned upside down and got tossed off the ropes moments later. Bull added to his momentum with a running power bomb for a near fall. Bull missed with a flying splash in the corner and Johnson decided to reciprocate the move, hitting his version of the splash followed by a devastating drop kick that put Bull down on his back. Johnson landed more punches and then a clothesline, but The Bronze Bull would not stay down for a count of 3! Johnson tossed Bull out of the ring where Erica used the opportunity to dig her high heeled shoes into Bull’s windpipe. Once the in ring action resumed, Johnson and Bull traded chops until Bull hoisted Johnson up for a Greetings From Mt. Olympus. But in a show of athleticism not witnessed by many, Johnson flipped out of the move and landed a head kick to Bull’s cranium. With Bull down, Johnson rose to the tope rope looking to land a flying elbow, but Bull moved at the last possible second and Johnson hurled to the ground. Johnson recovered and looked for an ES2, but that was blocked by The Bronze Bull who leveraged Johnson into the Throne of Olympus. Just as Johnson was about to tapout, Jordan Jacobs rushed to the ring and hit Bull with a double axe handle to break up the hold. The Bronze Bull was awarded the victory via disqualification but was now surrounded by not only Jacobs and Johnson but Morgan, The Convict and Johnny Z as well. The Bronze Bull was beaten unmercifully just like Damon Windsor, Bobby Starr and The Canadian Red Devil before him. The final scene was hard to watch as The Convict gave a broken and battered Bronze Bull a 15 to 20. Can anything stop this upgraded version of Impact Elite?

Breakthrough MMA - Proving Ground n Pound 8 Review on GFL.tv

Breakthrough MMA provided a great night of fights as multiple titles were on the line for its debut on GFL.tv! Proving Ground n Pound 8 emanated from the Daytona Beach Ocean Center in Daytona Beach Florida culminating in 9 out of 13 fights ending in KO or submission.

Anderson Hutchinson (8-0) beat Nahshon Nicks (3-1) via guillotine choke to retain the featherweight title in the first round. It was a technical grappling fight as both athletes showed their merit on the ground, with Hutchinson going for submissions, including a rear naked choke, while Nicks fought off the attempts and got back to his feet. But Hutchinson was relentless and wanted to get the fight back to the ground which he did after stopping a takedown attempt by Nicks and grabbing a standing guillotine, then pulling guard and when Nicks went to roll through the move, Hutchinson rolled too and ended up in the mount with the choke still locked in. The guillotine from this position not only chokes the air out of a person, but is excruciatingly painful. Nicks tapped out as Hutchinson defended his title. The worst part for Nicks was he tapped out with one second left in the round.

In more championship action, Alex Nicholson (3-5) defeated Mike Miller by second round guillotine in a Middleweight Title fight. Miller imposed his will in round one with wrestling and ground and pound. In round two, Miller shot in for a takedown and left his neck open as Nicholson grabbed ahold and sunk in the choke. Nicholson cranked away at it until Miller tapped out.

Dillon Gower (3-2) defeated Luis Buros via triangle choke in round two to become the inaugural flyweight champion. These two fought at a rapid pace the whole fight, and were trading strikes through most of the first round. Gower got a nice takedown and ended up in the closed guard of Buros. Buros looked to stall the action out on the mat as he kept his guard closed and held on to Gower. It worked as the fighters made their way back to their feet seconds later and Buros tried to close the distance and catch a jumping guillotine but it wasn’t tight and the bell ended signaling an end to the round. In round two, Gower got an immediate takedown and after a quick scramble locked on a D’arce choke, but Buros stayed cool in the situation and did not tap. Gower was relentless and transitioned to a triangle choke where he caught Buros and got the tapout victory.

Off the Chain - OTC 1 Vengeance Review on GFL.tv

Off the Chain (OTC) debuted on GFL with OTC 1 - Vengeance from the Hot Springs Convention Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The hot crowd was witness to 15 fights with 13 finishes. This event brought together all of the top fighters in Arkansas and the surrounding area as OTC presented a stacked pro/am card for the rabid fans of the area.

In the main event, Thomas "The Young Lion" Gifford (7-2) defeated Dave "The Duke" Burrow (6-2) via armbar in the first round. Gifford made good on the rematch as he was able to even the score on Burrow who picked up a hard fought and well deserving TKO earlier this year. In round one, Burrow landed some nice leg kicks to keep the taller Gifford at bay until Burrow went for and landed a takedown. But Gifford was right back to his feet seconds later. Burrow hit another takedown but Gifford snatched an arm on the way down and when they got to the mat Gifford was in control working from his guard. Burrow tried to stack Gifford and break the submission, but Gifford would not let go and when Burrow jumped over to one side, Gifford had the leverage he needed and cranked the arm, hyperextending it, and getting the tapout victory. Could Gifford and Burrow be in for a trilogy? The MMA fans of Arkansas will demand it.

In the co-main event, PJ Bonner (1-0) had a successful pro debut as he defeated Jeremy “The Broker” Mier (0-4) via standing guillotine in round one. Bonner had the height advantage and used it as he landed a nice jab to start the fight, a Bonner kick was caught by Mier as both men grappled for position on their feet. Bonner got double under hooks and landed some knees in the clinch and finally sunk in a submission that had Mier tapping. The referee didn’t see the first tapout so Bonner continued the hold and got a second tapout from Mier much to his irritation as he didn’t understand why Bonner continued with the submission. Bonner showed he is an excellent all around fighter as he continued his ascent up the ranks, doing it as a professional now and facing much stiffer competition.

Sparta Combat League - Chaos in the Cage Review

Sparta Combat League returned on GFL with Chaos in the Cage, a stacked MMA card that also featured kickboxing from the Grizzly Rose in Denver, Colorado. Highlighted by a championship bout in the 170 lb division, this event had 6 finishes in 10 fights and was pure action from bell to bell.

In the main event, undefeated Kris "Captain Awesome" Hocum (5-0) defended his SCL Welterweight Championship against Charlie "Hollywood" Brown (6-5) winning a unanimous decision. In the first round, Hocum and Brown traded strikes until Hocum looked for a takedown but it was defended by Brown. Both fighters were locked in a stalemate against the cage until Hocum finished the takedown in the middle of the cage. Brown got up immediately and continued to fight in the clinch against the cage. In round two, when the action went down to the mat again, Hocum went for a rear naked choke that Brown defended. Hocum then flipped Brown over and got the mount until Brown shucked Hocum off. In the transition, Hocum tried for an armbar but it was not deep enough on Brown’s arm and Brown held his ground until the bell sounded ending the round. In the final round, Hocum immediately shot for a takedown which was blocked by Brown who jumped on Hocum’s back and looked for a choke of his own. The fighters held this position for quite a while with Brown landing some punches until Hocum was able to switch positions and wind up on top where he looked for a guillotine and then landed some elbows. Both fighters were gassed at this point but continued to fight on as Hocum scored with punches from the top, went for a choke and almost got a fight-ending armbar. But Brown would not be submitted and fought off the submission attempt as the crowd roared at the final bell. Hocum is one of the fastest rising prospects in Colorado and defeating the gritty Brown will only increase his stock in the region. This was a great main event which anchored an action packed card.

In other action, Jason Clayton (8-2) defeated Chris Trammel (5-4) in impressive fashion with a rear naked choke in round one of a middleweight scrap. Both fighters came out swinging and after a slip by Clayton, Trammel landed on top as they continued to battle on the mat. Trammel threw several hammer fists, as he worked in side guard. Trammel maneuvered Clayton to his back where he sunk in the rear naked choke, finishing a very game Trammel. This was a fast paced bout from bell to bell and both guys came to win.

EFC - MMA Mania Review on GFL.tv

Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) returned to GFL.tv with MMA Mania at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 11-bout card featured 7 finishes and was highlighted by a main event for the EFC Light Heavyweight Title.

In the main event, Christopher Vallaro (6-2) defeated Montsir Mohammad (2-3) via unanimous decision for the EFC Light Heavyweight Championship. In round one, the fighters went to the ground after a takedown by Vallaro and Mohammad locked on a tight armbar that would have finished lesser opponents. Vallaro fought off the submission attempt and fought his way back to his feet where he traded knees with Mohammad in the clinch. As both fighters wrestled for a takedown, Mohammad apparently grabbed the cage and the ref took a point away which was a huge call. In round two, Vallaro got another takedown, as Mohammad tried for a guillotine. Vallaro popped out and the fighters got back to their feet. Vallaro and Mohammad wrestled for positioning in the clinch, but that was to Vallaro’s advantage as he scored another takedown and once again showed cage control. In round three, Vallaro got another takedown, but Mohammad went for broke going for a triangle choke and armbar, but Vallaro was too strong and imposed his will once again as he broke free of each and every submission attempt by Mohammad. Vallaro won this round again with his wrestling and got the nod from the judges in a hard fought, competitive match.

In other action, William Baptiste defeated Adam Timberlake via unanimous decision in a heavyweight tilt. It was a solid showing by Baptiste who out wrestled Timberlake and controlled the whole fight. The compact Baptiste scored with numerous takedowns and kept Timberlake on his back for a good portion of the fight. Baptiste looks like a solid prospect if he can add a striking game to his wrestling, he will be able to give fits to almost anyone he faces.

Asylum Fight League 41 Preview on GFL.tv

Asylum Fight League is back with its latest installment Asylum Fight League 41 on May 25 from the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This 16-bout amateur card will feature some of the top prospects on the East Coast.

In the main event, the Asylum Fight League Title will be on the line as Champion Tajuddin Abdul-Hakim (7-3) defends his title against Joseph Lowry (4-0). Abdul-Hakim is by far the toughest test ever for Lowry as Abdul-Hakim packs KO power in both hands and mixes up his striking very well. Lowry is a grinder who has defeated 3 of his opponents via decision. Lowry uses a mix of strong wrestling control and takedowns to wear his opponents out and keep them on their back for a good portion of the bout. If he can dictate where the fight goes in this bout, his opponent could be in for a long night.

Clarissa Padua (1-0) and Bryanna Fissori (2-0) square off in a women’s bantamweight bout in a battle of undefeated fighters. Padua submitted her only opponent in just over a minute in the first round and has been continuing to round out the rest of her game since then. Padua is a tenacious fighter who is always looking to bring the action to her opponents. Fissori is a champion for another organization and brings with her a lot of cage time compared to Padua. Fissori has shown she has great cardio conditioning combined with being a heavy puncher. Both women are two of the rising amateurs on the East Coast in the 135 lb division. This fight should be a shootout.

Canadian Cage Rage 11: Long Weekend Smackdown

Canadian Cage Rage, Atlantic Canada’s premier Amateur MMA organization, returns with Cage Rage 11: Long Weekend Smackdown on May 20 at the Lion’s Club in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Cage Rage is branching out of New Brunswick, Canada and looks to be a solid proving ground for MMA in Eastern Canada where the fighters are separated from the other Canadian hotbeds of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver and as such have their own unique fighting circuit. This stacked amateur card is sure to heat up the night as these fighters go toe to toe.

In the main event, Norm Robichaud (0-6) takes on Eugene London (0-0). Robichaud hails from Shediak, NB and is known for his wild fighting style which always gets him in fights of the night, but also gets him in trouble in the cage. This will be the hometwon star London’s first MMA fight and all eyes will be on him. London lost his right arm in a farming accident just below the shoulder but that has not stopped him from pursuing his dream of competing in one of the most physically grueling sports imaginable. In fact, London has become a hero of sorts for all kinds of people scattered across the Eastern seaboard of Canada. Sometimes wins and losses are overshadowed by a bigger story. When Robichaud and London square off in the cage, this will be one of those rare instances where both men walk in and out of the cage as not only winners but champions.

In the co-main event, Chris Gallant (0-1) from Shediak, NB battles Dave Claroni (0-2) from Eastport, Maine in the United States in a lightweight scrap. Gallant and Claroni are both looking for their first wins, and it will be a contrast in styles as Gallant is a more well-rounded striker while Claroni is a strong wrestler and grappler. The key to the fight will be who can dictate where the fight goes and then from there implement their strengths either on the feet or on the mat.

IZW Adrenaline May 18 Preview on GFL.tv

With Coronationonly a week old IZW is still reeling from the revelation that Jermaine Johnson has joined forces with IZW Champion Johnny Z. Johnson was put in the ring as the third man to bring structure and fairness to the title match between Z and Double D, but instead was an insurance policy for Z to retain the title. What will the Former Leader of the Hype Section have to say for himself and his actions? How long has this plan been simmering and are there more tricks up Johnny Z’s sleeve? Tune in this Saturday because both Johnson and Z will be in the house.

In other more troubling news, Impact Division Champion Damien Morte was hit by a car after Coronationwhere he successfully defended his title against “The Worst in the World” Copycat in an epic Impact X Match. The damage Morte suffered in the cage was only a prelude to the injuries he would suffer later in the night. Expect an update this Saturday on Morte’s condition and the ramifications that will have on the Impact Division Championship.

Speaking of Champions, Jordan Jacobs set himself apart as he won the Impact Player of the Year Tournament, defeating Bobby Starr in the finals of a Ladder Match. As the newly crowned Impact Player of the Year, Jacobs is the #1 Challenger for a championship title of his choosing. Jacobs is at the top of his game right now and chances are he’s ready to cash in his chips sooner rather than later and go for gold. Find out when and where this Saturday night.

Also, The Bronze Bull took it on the chin at Coronation as he was defeated by The Convict in a match that more closely resembled a street fight on the streets of Detroit. Bull has been through a vexing past few weeks beginning with Madame Commissioner Erica shaving off his golden locks and culminating with a 15 to 20 from The Convict at Coronation. Will The Bronze Bull be in the Impact Arena to once again pick himself up by the boot straps and fight the good fight, or has Erica and her Convict sent The Bronze Bull packing for good?

Randy Price took care of Brad Michaels in a barnburner that showed that the “Old School Sucka” is back 100% from his neck injury. With Michaels defeated by his own finisher, the piledriver, he has to be beside himself with anger. Will the CEO of the Old School Assassins show his face in the Impact Arena or has Price chased off his archrival.

The Birds of Prey continue to show no weakness as they once again dismantled Big Business. This bout had huge ramifications as if Big Business lost, which they did, they would be kicked out of Impact Elite. Battle in Plattsburgh 2 Review on GFL.tv

Xtreme Combat Promotions returned with Battle in Plattsburgh 2 emanating from the Crete Civic Center in Plattsburgh, New York. MMA fans, this event was a stacked card with 6 of 9 fights ending in finishes featuring the top up and coming prospects inside the upper North East area. XCP is the premier MMA organization in New England and now they have expanded their reach and are ready to put their stamp of high quality MMA on in the Empire State as one of GFL's rising organizations.

In the main event, Travis Garret (5-0) defeated Frank Palumbo (4-3) via standing guillotine in the first round. Both fighters came out striking and then closed the distance with some clinch work. Palumbo looked to grab a single leg takedown, but in doing so left his neck open for a choke. Garret cinched up the hold and re-adjusted seconds later to get the tapout. It was a quick and impressive win for the undefeated Garret as he continues to rise in the ranks of Northeast prospects.

In other action, Sam Salhany (3-0) defeated Ian Beatease (4-4) via triangle choke in the third round in a lightweight scrap. Salhany is a grappling wizard and once again showed XCP fans that he is extremely dangerous on the ground. It took Salhany longer than usual, but he set up his fight ending submission with some solid wrestling control and quick transitions that kept Beatease on the defensive.

IZW Coronation Review on GFL.tv

IZW Coronationwas a star studded card. On the nine-year anniversary of the company, every wrestler on the show came to battle and left their soul in the middle of the ring for the world to see, except for one…who proved he has no soul. The Impact X Match was amazing, the Impact Player of the Year Ladder Match was incredible, but the IZW Championship Match was unimaginable and shocking as one of IZW’s own, turned his back on the fans, his colleagues and destroyed his own honor and integrity by aligning forces with the filth that is Johnny Z.

In the main event, IZW Champion Johnny Z took on #1 Challenger Double D with Special Guest Referee Jermaine Johnson. Initially, Johnny Z was reluctant to lock up with Double D and for good reason as once they finally did D used some slick wrestling to get two quick near falls on the Champion. While Z strutted outside of the ring, looking to antagonize the crowd and stop D’s momentum, D took matters into his own hands and climbed to the tope rope and knocked Z down with a flying forearm. If Johnny Z didn’t want to fight, Double D was ready to bring the fight to him. Double D then landed a hurricanrana followed by vicious chops along the guardrail that had Z writhing in pain. However it was only a matter of time until a wrestler the caliber of Johnny Z made his comeback and it started by reversing Double D into the ring post followed by dropping D neck-first onto the guardrail. Once the match resumed in the ring, Erica tried to trip up Double D, giving Johnson an opportunity to assert his authority by sending Erica to the back. D went for another rollup pin, but Z kicked out and planted a boot right in D’s face. Z is a guru on the art and craft of wrestling and with no wasted movements he kept Double D down with a knee to the windpipe, cutting off D’s oxygen and making his lungs work that much harder in this war of attrition. With Z having his way, and the crowd spurring Double D on, D managed to give Z a bulldog that turned the tide. A springboard by Double D was reversed into a DDT by Johnny Z as both men were going for broke in this match.
Z, a master of professional wrestling cinched up an abdominal stretch putting excruciating pressure on D’s midsection. After a break in the submission, Z shot D into the ropes where D pulled off a spinning DDT. Turnabout is fair play and as both men struggled to their feet, Z maneuvered Double D into a bulldog from the second rope as the fans in the Impact Arena could sense something big was right around the corner. Johnny Z jawed back and forth with the crowd as he made his way to the top rope but missed with a leg drop giving Double D the opportunity he was looking for. D measured Z in the corner and went to work with knee after knee to the face finally planting Z on the canvas with one more brutal knee. D climbed to the top rope to give Z what he deserved, a flying crossbody, when out of nowhere Z pushed Johnson into the ropes, causing D to lose his balance and crotch himself. D, who was a sitting duck, was leveled by a Big Boot from Z that nearly severed D’s spirit from his body. But Z could not get the pinfall! The Force was in full effect. D came back with a vengeance and hit two flying knees followed by and enziguri that brought Johnny Z down to his knees. A splash in the corner followed by not 1, not 2, not 3, but 10 chops culminating with a Force chop sent Z crashing to the mat. D then flew to the top rope once again ready to deliver his flying crossbody and regain the IZW Championship when all of a sudden, D was caught in midair by Johnson and then slammed down with a Samoan Drop!!! It looked like the fix was in as Shawn McHale, who placed Johnson in the role of Special Guest Referee, came running down to the ring, but was turned into a one hitter quitter by Johnson who cracked McHale with a straight right. Through the melee, the groggy Z had time to regroup and hit the Big Boot in the Corner for the pinfall to retain his IZW Title. This was the swerve of all swerves as nobody in the Impact Arena or watching live on gfl.tv saw this coming! What could Z have promised Johnson to turn his back on the Hype Section? Stay tuned to the coming weeks and months to find out where this new stable is headed and who if anyone can stand up to them.

With high risk, comes high reward and that summarized the evening’s first match as IZW Impact Division Champion “The Patriot of Pain” Damien Morte battled “The Worst in the World” Copycat in an Impact X Match with the title on the line. Both of these men have taken their feud all over Lawton, Oklahoma, fighting each other in numerous public places. Because of their violent tendencies, and for public safety, a steel cage was the only place they could clash, hence the Impact X Match. Copycat got the festivities started early tearing after Morte before the bell even rang to start the match, but Morte crushed that offense with a bit of his own culminating with tossing Copy through the ropes where his body slammed hard against the cage followed by leveraging Copy face first into the cage. Morte was the first to use the cage as a weapon, but Copy was first to draw blood with it. Copy slammed Morte’s head and body several times into the cage with running hip smashes that busted the Champion open like a stuck pig. A modified cutter by Morte gave him a few seconds to recoup as both men’s bodies where already bruised and battered from this demonic match. Copy’s night got a bit worse when he took a running slide, package-first, in the corner. Shortly after, in a great sequence, Copycat tossed Morte into the cage, but instead of smashing against it, Morte clung to it like he was Spider-Man. Morte then hit a flying crossbody from the position, but Copycat rolled through the move and hit Morte with a fallaway slam that destroyed Morte’s body against the unforgiving steel! Copycat then climbed to the top ropes and swung from them partially hitting Morte with a mule kick as both men crashed to the ground. Copycat and Morte tried for dueling stunners when Morte finally landed a piledriver that put Copy out. This gave Morte a real shot at climbing the cage and grabbing the title but Copy recovered in time ripping Morte from the cables and giving him an Alabama slam. Both men found the intestinal fortitude to climb up to the top rope once again looking to land that one devastating move, and in the first holy crap move of the night, Copycat hit a steamroller from the top rope as both men plunged to the mat with extreme force. The steamroller did as much damage to Copy, as his neck was jammed into the canvas. Copycat got to the cables first, but Morte was right behind and just when it looked like Morte would drop Copy down to the mat, Copy used the positioning to hit a Doppelganger (stunner) as the two slammed down to the ring with authority! Morte showed tremendous recuperative powers as he hit Copy with a knee-o-tine that further damaged Copycat’s already injured neck. In an unbelievable show of dedication, Morte tried to permanently end Copy’s night and career by executing a swanton bomb attempt from atop the cage some 15 feet high in the air! Morte just missed as that would have been it for Copycat. Finally, Copy and Morte raced up and over the cables one final time where Damien Morte choked Copycat into unconsciousness and grabbed the Impact Division belt as Copycat fell listlessly to the mat.

IZW Tag Team Champions The Birds of Prey (Falcon & Phoenix) defeated Big Business (Damon Windsor & Kevin Morgan) after an odd series of events. Earlier in the evening, BB got their hands on some “juice” which Morgan drank and Windsor tossed out and it once again proved to be their downfall. It was an even match heading down the stretch, when Morgan unexpectedly had to rush to the bathroom, the women’s bathroom no less, because of the side effects of the “juice”. With Windsor down a man, he was no match for the Birds as Falcon hit a Falcon Punch followed by a Phoenix-sault by Phoenix as The Birds picked up the win to retain their titles. After the bout, Windsor and Morgan had a falling out and worse yet, with their loss, they are out of Impact Elite.

When The Bronze Bull and The Convict locked horns it was a battle of two epic forces where only one would be left standing. These two wrestlers are the most physically imposing and intimidating forces in wrestling and this feud had boiled over into something more than just bad blood. This was an all-out street fight with both men landing power shots throughout the bout. Punches, kicks, slams and clotheslines where the order of the day. The Bronze Bull looked to slap on his submission, the Throne of Olympus, but The Convict fought out of it. The submission attempt had done its job and The Convict was moving slower now, giving Bull the opportunity to climb up to the top rope and go for a flying clothesline. The move missed as The Convict continued with his onslaught. Later, The Bronze Bull shocked everyone by his physical strength by giving The Convict a Greetings From Mt. Olympus as it looked like the match was over, but The Convict kicked out! Bull looked for another Greetings, but The Convict blocked the move and hit his 15 to 20 picking up the pinfall. In a battle between the two mega-powers of IZW, The Convict showed that he was the last man standing at the top of the mountain and that his finisher, the 15 to 20, is the most devastating move in all of professional wrestling. To add insult to injury, after the match, Erica slapped The Bronze Bull across the face! This feud looks far from over, but the question has to be asked, what can The Bronze Bull do to The Convict that he hasn’t already done? Sometimes even your best isn’t good enough when you are up against a force like The Convict.

The 2013 Impact Player of the Year Finals did not disappoint as “Lights Out” Jordan Jacobs and “The Brass Bull” Bobby Starr tangled in a Ladder Match. Ladders littered the ring and where used as crude but effective weapons with both men taking chances in this bout, some of which paid off while others didn’t, leaving both men’s bodies in shambles after the bout. At one point, Jacobs set Starr up on the turnbuckle and looked to sandwich Starr in between a ladder with a drop kick. Starr moved out of the way at the last second and it was Jacobs who destroyed his own body against the unforgiving steel. Again, Jacobs was holding a ladder preparing to crack Starr in the face with it when Starr turned the tables and hit a spear on Mr. Young Talent with the force of the steel ladder against Jacobs’ exposed flesh detonating like a bomb on Jacobs’ shoulder. A superplex from the top rope by Starr landed both wrestlers on a waiting ladder where their spines twisted up like a pretzel. As both men struggled to get back to their feet Jacobs struck first with a drop kick hitting Starr square in the jaw. Starr reversed Jacobs into a corner with a waiting ladder as once again Jacobs took another brutal ladder shot. Starr followed up with his leaping clothesline to add more damage to Jacobs’ ribcage and spine. Only moments later, in another holy crap move of the night, Jacobs missed an Anaikolra Kick, and was powerbombed onto a standing, inverted ladder by Starr! There was no give in the ladder and Starr let go of Jacobs high in the air, causing even more momentum and damage to Jacobs when he finally crashed into the awaiting ladder. Starr made his way up the 13-foot ladder to grab the dangling Impact Player of the Year Cup as Jacobs limped up after him. Both men traded punches at the top of the ladder until Starr hoisted Jacobs up onto his shoulders prepared to give him a Greetings From Mt. Olympus! While Jacobs was on Starr’s shoulders he grabbed the cup and won the match just as he was dropped from a good 15 feet by Starr! During the final descent, Jacobs’ body bounced off the top rope at an awkward and scary moment causing his body to contort in an unnatural way. This was the gutsiest performance Jacobs has ever given in the squared circle and pushes him into a new stratosphere and quite frankly into icon status with what he accomplished. Jacobs might not be the most popular wrestler in IZW, but nobody can take away from his performance in this match and the toll his body took in becoming Impact Player of Year. With the win, Jacobs gets an automatic title shot at any championship, and deserves as much, for winning this one of a kind, instant classic Ladder Match!

In a grudge match of two former friends, Randy Price took on “Bad” Brad Michaels. Price came back from a serious neck injury courtesy of Michaels and tag team partner Bryan Cruize where Price was planted on his head with a spike piledriver. These two went right at each other with the fight spilling out of the ring as they brawled right in front of the fans. When the match returned to the ring, Michaels went to work on Price’s face with a series of short right hands. The whole match was back and forth with nobody being able to keep an advantage for long as Price struck Michaels with a back body drop and a takedown followed by his own form of ground and pound. Michaels showed off his technical wrestling by giving Price a superplex moments later. Price gained the advantage a short while after and after putting Michaels down on the mat, Price climbed to the top rope and went for his Splash from the Past, only to have Michaels get his knees up at the last moment as Price’s midsection took the brunt of the impact. Michaels followed up with a super kick, but Price kicked out at two! Price reversed a piledriver attempt by Michaels as he tossed Michaels out of the ring onto Cruize’s head. Price followed Michaels outside the ring and the two exchanged knife edge chops. The chops continued back in the ring followed by a double clothesline. On the outside of the ring, “Coach” Gary Tool, who Price had brought in as his corner, lit into Cruize with over hand rights. But Cruize managed to get into the ring and give Price a low blow without the ref seeing. Tool managed to drag Cruize out of the ring before he could inflict any more damage and clocked Michaels with a right hand. This sent Michaels into Price’s direction where Price gave Michaels the Piledriver 1-2-3 and picked up the victory.

Conflict MMA - Havoc Review

Conflict MMA Promotions made its debut on GFL with Havoc, an 18-bout card, emanating from the Civic Center in Savannah, Georgia. Havoc tore the house down as an assortment of interesting and skilled characters all squared off in the ring looking to do damage and impress the raucous crowd.

In the main event, Nick Smiley (6-2) defeated Joseph Ray (2-1) for the Conflict MMA Heavyweight Championship. Both Smiley and Ray started off aggressive in the beginning with Smiley getting the better of the exchanges including head kicks and knees from the clinch ending with Smiley landing a series of crisp punches and finally getting the KO in the first round of a barnburner. Smiley is on a 4-fight winning streak, all by first round stoppage, as his stock continues to rise on the regional scene. Standing at 6’5”, Smiley towers over most opponents and he showed in this fight that he knows how to use his size and length to his advantage as he landed several devastating strikes that culminated with a knockout. Expect big things from this big man of the South.

In more action, Lindsay Rowse (2-2) defeated Jeremy Wallace (3-2) in a 195 lb catchweight bout via first round heel hook. Rowse is a fast starter and is always in attack mode as he is constantly looking for a KO or submission if the fight hits the mat. Rowse stayed true to form by submitting Wallace seconds into the bout as the hometown kid made good in front of his Savannah fans.

In other action in the pro ranks, Adrian “A Train” Henderson (1-0) defeated Pharaoh Joe Council (0-1) via submission in the first round. This was a highly anticipated bout with both fighters looking to prove themselves in the heavyweight ranks. To start the fight, Henderson landed a nice judo throw to get the fight to the mat, showing off his technical grappling. Henderson moved to side control and then Council unexpectedly tapped out. It appeared Council injured his ribs during the aforementioned throw by Henderson with a possible cartilage tear or broken ribs.

SHOWDOWN FIGHTS XI - Buchholz VS Bell Review

Showdown Fights, the top MMA organization in Utah, presented another night of exciting fights with SHOWDOWN FIGHTS XI - Buchholz VS Bell. The 10-bout pro/am event was highlighted by 8 finishes, including in the main event with the Showdown Lightweight Title on the line. Utah MMA has flown under the radar for over a decade, but Showdown Fights has proven to be in a class of its own for MMA in the Mountain West.

In the main event, with the Showdown Fights Lightweight Title at stake, Champion Justin Buchholz (15-7) defeated Gordon Bell (8-2) via KO in round one after a wild couple of minutes. This was the UFC vet Buchholz’s first title defense and he did so in impressive fashion. Bell looked for a takedown early but it was fought off by Buchholz who landed a nice elbow to break Bell’s attempt. After some quick dirty boxing, Buchholz scored a takedown. Bell sunk in a guillotine choke from the bottom, but Buchholz fought off the attempt as they got back to their feet. Both fighters scored from the distance as well as up close in the clinch with elbows and punches. Buchholz partially connected with a head kick but it was his spinning back fist that landed flush right after the kick that dropped Bell to the mat. Buchholz finished the fight off with some punches on the ground. Bell never saw the spinning back fist and it proved to be the difference in this barnburner of a main event.

In the co-main event, Jason South (10-0) defeated late replacement Phil Dace (7-4) by triangle choke in round one. Both fighter exchanged strikes in the opening minute with South grabbing a kick from Dace and getting the takedown. South worked in Dace’s half guard and landed some elbows and punches to the face of Dace. Dace worked to get back to his feet and the two continued to battle with strikes. Dace landed a body kick, but South caught the leg once again and got another takedown. South went for a modified arm triangle choke then transitioned to a standard triangle while also landing elbows to Dace’s head. South finally got the tapout victory on the tough Dace who showed a ton of heart even in defeat.

Also in action, the heavyweights slugged it out as Jan Jorgensen (5-0) stayed undefeated as he won a unanimous decision against Kip Ramos (5-2) in a hard fought battle. Both Jorgensen and Ramos hit each other with some bombs, but neither man would go down as Jorgensen racked up points and got the nod at the end.

Chaos in the Cage Preview on GFL.tv

Sparta Combat League returns on GFL with Chaos in the Cage, a stacked MMA and Muay Thai card from the Grizzly Rose in Denver, Colorado. This event promises to be full speed from bell to bell as the fighters stepping into the cage will look to make a name for themselves to a worldwide audience.

In a featured bout, undefeated Kris “Captain Awesome” Hocum (4-0) puts his SCL Welterweight Championship on the line against Charlie “Hollywood” Brown (6-4). Hocum won the title in March via TKO and looks to defend for the first time. Hocum is a fast starter and possesses heavy hands and great submissions as all of his fights have ended in the first round. Hocum is one of the fastest rising prospects in Colorado, but he will face his toughest test to date in Brown. Brown comes into the title fight having fought for some of the top regional organizations in the Southwest and looks to take back gold to Arizona. Brown is an aggressive fighter who loves to press the action and make his opponents fight his style of fight. When Hocum and Brown collide there is sure to be fireworks as this main event will be explosive.

In other action, Danny “D Boy” Mitchell takes on “Vicious” Vern Earwood in a 205 lb Muay Thai bout. Mitchell is a fan favorite as his nonstop fighting style always makes for great bouts. Earwood is a powerhouse at 205 lb and has KO power in both his fists and feet. Expect this fight to not go to a decision as Mitchell and Earwood are cut from the same cloth and that is great news for fight fans who are looking for a KO.

GFL and Comcast continue their weekly combat sports series, REAL FIGHTS, with world class MMA, as Rocktagon MMA presents another show stopper with Rocktagon MMA XXV – Prepare to Fight featuring a full lineup of extreme cage fights. Founded in 2010, Rocktagon MMA has successfully completed events on two coasts and is the only national amateur fight series in the country and the only promotion able to offer four types of shows to meet the needs of various markets: all Amateur, all Professional, Pro-Am, and Rock-n-Rage. Prepare to Fight promises to continue in the storied tradition of top-notch entertainment provided by one of the country’s leading MMA organizations.

In the main event, in the professional ranks, Joseph "Super Hero" Lile (3-0) from Indiana battles Clint Anderson (4-1) of Illinois in a lightweight shootout. Both fighters are looking to climb the ladder in Rocktagon and a decisive win here by either athlete will put them in contention for a title fight in the near future. The undefeated Lile is a ground fighting wizard as he has made his opponents tapout in every fight. His long, lanky build is perfect for his style of fighting as he's able to use that length on the ground to lock in a variety of tight submissions. Anderson comes into the fight almost a mirror of Lile as he too is tall for the lightweight division and is a submission master winning all 4 of his fights via tapout. Anderson's grappling is suburb and his scrambles are terrific as he is able to maneuver into dominant position in the blink of an eye. With both fighters being so dangerous on the mat, this could turn into a standup war where these two slug it out from the opening bell. Whatever way this fight goes, you can expect constant action from these two vets.

In the co-main event, Keith "Stone" Cunagin (4-4) fights Tony "Two Times" Ledbetter (3-5) in a matchup of two high octane fighters. Cunagin is a strong grappler but mixes up strikes very effectively to keep his opponent off balance. Ledbetter is a warrior who is always looking for a good scrap and will take two to give one. These fighters are looking to make a name for themselves and to do that they will have to use the other one as a stepping stone. Find out which fighter elevates his career and which one gets broke when Cunagin and Ledbetter square off in the cage.

Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) returns on May 18 to GFL.tv with MMA Mania at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 16-bout card will feature many of the top regional fighters in the area as EFC is famous for being a battle zone for fighters looking to make a name for themselves.

In a featured match, Nick Mauriello (4-2) battles Frank Doyle (3-1) in a lightweight scrap. Mauriello is a gritty fighter that loves to grind down his opponents and rack up points while also looking for the finish in the form of a submission. Mauriello is a respected fighter on the East Coast and has never been stopped in a fight. Mauriello always comes forward and presses the action as he is fearless in the cage. Doyle is a submission specialist and his fights rarely get out of the first round. Doyle comes into the fight looking to make a name for himself at the expense of Mauriello. If this fight hits the mat, don’t blink. This will be a contrast of styles where a war of attrition could be the key to victory. Whoever has the best cardio conditioning will have a huge advantage if this fight goes to the later rounds.

In another barnburner, Montsir Mohammad (2-2) fights Christopher Vallaro (5-2) in a welterweight tilt. Mohammad is coming off a second round submission victory and looks to make it two in a row as he has been improving his whole MMA game and is getting to be a well-rounded fighter. Mohammad is a rangy fighter and uses his length to land shots to his opponents while staying on the outside and out of harm’s way. Vallaro is the more experienced fighter and riding a 3-fight win streak. Vallaro is a grappling specialist with 3 wins via tapout to his credit. Vallaro could look to close the distance against the taller Mohammad and get the fight to the mat where his submission game can come into play.

CSC 36 Review on GFL.tv

Virginia's longest running Muay Thai fight series returned to GFL as Combat Sports Challenge (CSC) presented CSC 36 at the Richmond Magnuson Grand Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. The event featured 11 kickboxing bouts in the professional and amateur ranks, highlighted by fast and furious action from the whole card.

In the main event, Jeremy Carper of Coalition Fight Team in West Virginia defeated Marc Seno of Weapons 9 in New Jersey via TKO in round one. Carper started off the fight using his reach to his advantage by landing some straight punches followed by a head kick that wobbled Seno. Carper continued to back Seno up with punches and kicks before dropping Seno with a looping right hand. Another right hook dropped Seno once the action resumed and the ref had seen enough and stopped the fight in the first round.

In the co-main event, held under K-1 Rules, Tecia Torres (1-0) from True Champions and ATT in Florida defeated Crystal “Sunshine” Parrish (0-1) from Suua Khai Muay Thai in Georgia via TKO in round one. Torres landed some nice kicks to the body to start the fight followed by some punches to the face which caused the ref to give Parrish a standing 8-count. More body kicks and strikes to the face by Torres and the ref once again gave Parrish a standing 8-count. During the second 8-count, the ref waived the fight off giving the win to Torres who was dominant. Torres is also a rising star for the all-female Invicta Fighting Championship MMA promotion, but on this night proved that she only needed her striking to get the job done.

OTC 1 – Vengeance Preview on GFL.tv

Off the Chain (OTC) debuts on GFL with OTC 1 – Vengeance on May 18 from the Hot Springs Convention Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas. This event brings together all of the top fighters in Arkansas and the surrounding area as OTC puts on a stacked pro/am card for the rabid fans of the area.

In the main event, Dave “The Duke” Burrow (6-1) fights Thomas “The Young Lion” Gifford (6-2) in a rematch. These two fought in February when Burrow picked up a hard fought and well deserving TKO in round three. It was the fight of the night and quite possible the Fight of the Year in Arkansas. The OTC promoters knew this was a can’t miss opportunity to come out of the gates with a rocking main event and they booked the highly anticipated rematch. Burrow got right back in the cage, picking up a first round submission victory in April while Gifford has stayed on the sidelines fine tuning his MMA game. With these two fighting earlier this year, this fight should have little to no feeling out period as these two gladiators went to war for the better part of three rounds. Expect this fight to have great grappling, awesome striking and high octane action for as long as the fight goes.

In the co-main event, PJ Bonner makes his pro debut. Bonner went (4-1) as an amateur winning a title in the welterweight division in his last fight. Bonner is an excellent all around fighter with wins coming via submission, KO and by decision. Bonner is the flashiest pro prospect in Arkansas and this fight promises to showcase this rising star of the “Natural State”.
